Beat me to it!

I am happy about this, too…Aaron Corp got completely screwed, which might scare away some recruits (although I doubt it). The guy wins the starting job in the spring and then gets hurt in fall practice and loses his job. Most coaches will give a job back after a player comes back from injury (especially in the preseason), but not Petey. I think he realizes that he might as well get at least two years out of Barkley before he is eligible to leave school early, rather than one from Corp if he has a monster year, a la Dirty Sanchez.

It will be interesting to see how Barkley performs…he is supposed to be the real deal.

Go Bruins.

All the reviews of Barkley pretty much pegged him out of HS as “Jesus in Cleats.” I think Corp was not ready after his injury. Interesting though – some Heisman “pundits” inserted Corp into the discussion because, well, he’s SC’s QB. How stupid do they look now that he was beat out by a true freshman.

Pete Carroll is a douchebag

He names Corp the starting QB and the kid gets hurt. Maybe he’s not medically ready at this time (even if he thinks and says he is). So, if Corp is not 100%, then yes, go ahead and name Barkley as your starting QB.

But Carroll says that this is not a temporary promotion (“not a one game deal”). In other words, even though Corp was the BETTER QB pre-season which led him to EARN the starting QB slot, even when he is fully healthy, he has now lost his job due to an injury.

Pete Carroll: Humanitarian. Superman. Douchebag.

But...but...but

What about Mitch Mustain? The guy was an amazing 3,648-0 in college! The LAT tells us this in EVERY column and article, even when it runs a piece in the Food Section about cooking a tastier pot roast.

That decision to transfer from Arkansas is looking better and better every year, Mitch. Make sure you get up from that bench every now and then to get the circulation going.

Why do I have the feeling

that Verner is going to have a field day against this guy? We know he’s interception prone. I bet Verner will be able to mess with his mind and make some things happen against USC this year.

Barkley's senior year numbers

in high school were a big drop off from his junior year numbers.

I know all the hype, but I wonder if the real Barkley is the potential, or the one struggled his senior year in high school

"when you've seen how big the world is, how can you make due with this?"

Corp and Chris Forcier

were rated very closely coming out of high school. Corp was probably better and no doubt improved as a QB while at SC. However, my guess is that he was fairly close to his ceiling. Barkley obviously has more potential. If Barkley stays healthy, my guess is he will be playing fairly well by the end of the season. And, with their offensive line and skill players, Barkley is probably going to look pretty good, especially against San Jose State. Hopefully he mixes in enough freshman mistakes that lead to losses.

The reasons Corp was top in the spring are moot

Corp won the job in the spring because of his grasp of the offense and the coaches liked his mobility. From all accounts Barkley was working his tail off over the summer to get better acquainted with the system and has shown marked improvement in camp so Corp no longer had that much stronger of a grasp of the offense. Also, with Corp’s leg injury he is not as mobile right now as he was. Finally, no one has ever made the argument that Corp had the better arm. This move makes sense for the Trojans, though of course I’m hoping that Barkley implodes and throws 5 or 6 pics when we see him in November!

Don't underestimate

thr CRN factor.

With UCLA starting so many freshmen at key spots, Cheatey might have wanted to make a splash to keep up…

But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
