OC Register owner to file for bankruptcy
I don't wish ill on anyone in this economy...but this is what happens when you publish CRAP. We are halfway to Fox's utopia.
Question is...will Marcia Smith blame this on UCLA?

Yeah
In this economy it sucks to see anyone struggling. However, this would have been preventable if there was competent reporting by that newspaper. Given the datapoints we have seen in their sports section, its not a surprise their product totally tanked.

Na na naaaa na
I’d like to think in some small way that they’re paying the price for their incredibly inaccurate and irresponsible hit job on our coaching staff. I don’t wish ill on individual people, but I do hope that the OC Register folds and that everyone except for their sports writers find employment at another paper. Their sports writers can find employment in another industry.

I don't think it's just the economy
And it’s not just technology, and it isn’t just changing tastes. My favorite art form is opera. It hasn’t died out, even though the economy makes it tough to put up a show, and even though technology has given us different forms of great art (I’m thinking The Bachelorette and Bridezillas, of course) I think what has doomed the OCR and what will eventually doom the fishwrap is their horrible reporting and writing.
I’ve told this story before, but it fits here (and also with the note about Simers’ alleged story). Years ago, George Putman was the local news guy. He always had an American flag waving in the background. He was a little more to the right than anyone in the world (not that there’s anything wrong with that.) Anyway, during the turbulent early ’70’s, there was a demonstration on campus. There also happened to be a fire in a warehouse in Whittier. George solemnly pontificated on each event. Then he added “No connection has yet been established between the riots in Westwood and the fire in Whittier.”
That’s lousy reporting. People can only take so much, in my opinion. The fishwrap may be the only paper in town, but it’s not the only source of news. The fishwrap’s days are numbered it may not happen in my lifetime, but certainly will before some of the younger Bruins join the choir invisible.
