Non-Revenue Sports Bruin Review and Calendar

Men's Water Polo

#4 UCLA opened up their 2009 season and first under head coach Adam Wright with five dominating wins at the Princeton Invitational. The Bruins outscored their opponents 81-25 in the tournament. It started with a 17-4 win over #11 Princeton on Friday. On Saturday, UCLA notched a pair of wins, beating #19 Brown, 19-9, and Iona, 20-6. A 14-7 win over Johns Hopkins on Sunday got the day going, then the Bruins finished off the weekend with a 15-3 win over #20 Bucknell. The Bruins continue their season this weekend up north in Palo Alto at the NorCal Tournament, where the nation's top 10 teams will all be playing.

Women's Soccer

The Bruins were bumped up to #6 in the rankings as they welcomed Gonzaga to Drake Stadium for their home opener. Sydney Leroux didn't get on the board for the Bruins like she has been doing all year, but UCLA kept their net empty and got two goals from Kristina Larsen to down the Bulldogs, 2-0. Now 4-1-1, the Bruins will play host to Missouri and Utah this week.

More including updates on women's volleyball and men's soccer teams after the jump.

Women's Volleyball

Eight Bruins recorded double-doubles in #8 UCLA's four-set win over BYU, the Bruins' first match of the Ameritas Players Challenge in Lincoln, Nebraska. UCLA picked up another four-set win in their next match as they topped Virginia. The big match of the weekend was the matchup with #5 Nebraska. The Bruins prevailed in five sets, 18-25, 25-17, 25-22, 24-26, 15-7, to pick up a win in front of over 13,000 Cornhusker fans and end Nebraska's 90 match home winning streak. That win, UCLA's sixth in a row, improved the Bruins' record to 8-1 as they prepare for a trip to #19 Pepperdine on Wednesday, followed by three games in Long Beach against a trio of unranked teams.

Men's Soccer

#9 UCLA opened up their home account last week with a 4-0 win over UC Davis to improve their record to 2-1 this year. Freshman Chandler Hoffman led the way for the Bruins as he put two away for goals. Both Brian Perk and Michael Stephens will leave the team this week to join the USA National Team as they head to Egypt for the U-20 World Cup. Cal St. Fullerton will visit on Thursday in the Bruins' first test without their pair of national teamers.
