The 10 Most Obnoxious CFB Fan Bases
Here is the list per FoxSports.com:
1. Notre Dame
2. Michigan
3. LSU
4. Oklahoma
5. Southern Cal (duh but too low)
6. Clemson
7. Ohio State
8. Alabama
9. Florida State
10. Florida
Here is their specific blurb re. the clowns in ketchup and mustard:
Raise your hand if you're counting the days 'til the NCAA hammers the Trojans with sanctions so bad that Tommy Trojan falls on his sword and takes that mind-numbing band and those spoiled "V"-fingered fans with him. Forcing Traveler to listen to "Conquest" 50 times a Saturday should qualify as animal cruelty. Someone call PETA. - Lisa Horne
I think these guys are ranked too low. I also think Florida is ranked too low as well. Not sure why they left out Miami (which is referred to their fans obnxiously as "the U").
I also don't see why fans from Alabama and Michigan belong in this list based on my interaction with them on college football road trips. Otherwise, what do people think about this list? Who shouldn't have been included? Who was left out. Discuss.
GO BRUINS.

$C should be higher...
… as I’ve seen them throw things at middle-aged fans as they were trying to elave the Mausoleum. Jerks.
Fresno State should also be on the list. When they’ve come here, and when my Cal relatives have gone there for games, there’s always a few stories about loud/ drunk/ belligerent/ physically hostile people.

I think Fresno State should get a pass though…. After all, they have to live in Fresno which is enough to make anyone hostile :-P

I've only really interacted with Florida basketball fans
but they were the most obnoxious fans I’ve ever encountered. Miami is probably not included because there aren’t a lot of Miami fans so it’s tougher to be really obnoxious in small numbers.
As for Notre Dame, they’re tough to rank because the hangers on are as annoying as they get, but those who go to the games and love the program like no other are among the classiest there are.

I don't know that I agree about Michigan
My experience with their fans is limited to the SBN Blog, and those guy always seemed pretty classy. (And very funny, too.) I wonder what they did (or what some of them did) that got them in full face and profile on the post office wall.

Michigan fans were cool when they visited 8-9 years back.
Solid folks.
The Alabama fans, however, were a bit snotty, though. Was so glad we beat the Tide.

Alabama fans
When we traveled to Tuscaloosa were just as classy as the Tenneessee fans. They were really cool.

Re: Michigan
People don’t like winners. I don’t know how what has been known to be the “quietest gathering of 100,000” at the Big House qualifies the fans as being obnoxious.
Fox Sports is obnoxious. Petros is obnoxious. Michigan fans? Eh… not so much.

Miami
Leaving Miami off this list is a huge omission.
The really funny part of this is that I bet plenty of Trojies are upset they aren’t ranked higher.

Where's Oregon?
Oregon fans have become in my mind among the most obnoxious. Beginning around the Joey Harrington era they have assumed this identity of world beaters, and while they have improved greatly from their ignominious past, they still haven’t achieved enough to warrant the levels of arrogance they have exhibited at games and on the message boards.
It’s like they have forgotten why they are called the zeroes.

+1
Oregon fans top my list. In my experience, Arizona fans are just as bad. I lived in Phoenix for 3 years (where UA grads move after they finish school)…and they are ridiculously rude and delusional.

+2 on Oregon
I would also include Cal. I am old enough to remember when Cal was horrible in Football and Basketball and we had huge winning streaks against them. They were definately a doormat in the Pac 8/10. I would rarely see Cal paraphernalia out and about. Now that they have improved their programs the fans are out in great numbers, and obnoxious about it.
SUC should definately be #1 though.

Ofcourse Oregon
We see it in the Pac-10 on regular basis, when Oregon fans sit in the Rose Bowl you’d think it’s the first time they left the house. The only fan fights I’ve ever seen in Pasadena is when the Ducks are in town.

Agree that Michigan is too high and that SC should be higher
but Notre Dame should be #1. Without question. Note to Irish fans…good “tradition” does not qualify you for the BCS or entitle you to national championships. Sorry. Try earning them.
Kinda like SC fans, and while they’re not as classless, at least SC has had a top 10 national team (however illegally) for the past decade

Toss-up for most obnoxious
Number one and two should be SUC and Florida. One year when I was living in New York, suc played at Giant’s Stadium in a late August kick-off events and one of the sports reporters wrote something like, “U$C fans showed up in New York with a $20 bill and a pair of underwear and didn’t change either.” Amen.
I’d add Oregon, where virtually all the students are drunk for every game and the Gomers from the sticks have few teeth and no class. In fairness, living in Portland I have a lot of UofO friends who are great people and they love their Ducks. My experience at both the Big House in Ann Arbor and at Notre Dame a couple of years ago were extremely positive, especially the latter. As someone said, it’s the hangers on.

Just Missed the Cut
Cal: The older fans have perspective. The younger ones think Tedford is God and that they are an “Elite” program. 50 years and counting is all I got to say.

Georgia should be on there.
They actually heckled us, in Knoxville, after we beat them. And, in an odd bit of symmetry, I posted this fanpost over on RTT the other day. Feel free to contribute.

stupidest rankings ever
You all know that there’s plenty of obnoxious drunk fans in every fanbase and plenty of great fans in every fanbase. Everyone’s experience is different depending on who you happen to be surrounded by while tailgating or in the stadium or walking from point A to point B. It’s all completely random luck of the draw.
Having worn my UCLA hat & Gator shirt to all-day tailgates at Miami, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Auburn, Clemson, the WLOCP and SEC championship games over the past 2 years, I have experienced it all, 99% of it being positive. And half of these games I just showed up to, knowing no one, and plenty of tailgating folks were happy to let me join and share in their fun.
Sure i’ve got in drunk arguments with obnoxious fans everywhere, but that’s part of the fun.
And this might sound blasphemous, but just telling the truth….Even tailgating in South Central I’ve stumbled into random SUC tailgates and been treated awesome. And I’ve seen PLENTY of drunk obnoxious UCLA fans in my day as well, so let’s not put ourselves on a pedestal.

Well said!
Even if I don’t want to believe it.
But you are right. There are two kinds of fans: Students and Alumni who are generally good decent people, and the Raider’s Fans who have simply changed jersey’s but not their venue or their mindset.

Yup
I’ve been ashamed of some UCLA fans, but generally not as bad as other schools. Once again…just on average.

but they ring true
I’ve been regularly disappointed by SUC and Cal fans. Stanford fans have been consistently good.
I can’t say I know or have seen a UCLA fan that has done more than a little heckling during a game.

Nope, U$C* has earned its spot
Florida State and U$C* belong on this list if only because of their mindless and incessant tomahawk chop and “This is…the only song we know. It’s boring and it’s slow” chants, respectively.
There must be some classy Trojies out there, believe it or not, but they’re likely part of the small contingent of scholarship recipients the school recruited recently to boost U$C*’s average SAT. UCLA and Stanford friends of mine have there cars keyed (key scrapes against the car paint) by Trojies after games, tolerated repeated obscenities cast in their direction, and witnessed a flurry of other such classless behavior from across town. Every school, including UCLA, has a cadre of obnoxious fans, but years of experience has indicated to me that the scale tips heavily toward the Trojies.
IMHO, the Arizona schools or UCB belong on this list more than Michigan does. “U of A” and ASU fans tend to be loud and crude. I’ve seen plenty of UCB fans fight each other, pound hard on visitors’ cars, and spit on opposing fans. Fresno State belongs there, too, for the reasons stated by others here. It’s hard to shoehorn all those guys into this list, though. Congrats to U$C* for finally making the “top ten” for something off the athletic field.

Too Many Examples...
…of the classless $uc fans to cite here, but here is my favorite…
I travelled in the summer of 2007 with my family on a European cruise and was approached – and then hassled – by a father/son tourist duo from $uc who felt justified to come talk trash because I was wearing a UCLA hat.
I basically told them to a) get a lift and then b) go to hell, but it ruined the moment to be sure.
This in front of the Leaning Tower of Pisa with my family in what should have been a memorable experience.
One other great experience (among many) was the the drunk $uc who accosted my Dad, his wife and I in a restaurant in Pasadena before a game last fall. Basically he continued to chant “59-0” over and over while we tried to have our brunch. Of course, you know what they say about karma and I was smiling that night when the condoms went down in Corvallis.
One last question – why do these bandwagon jackasses show up at our, UT’s, and so many other stadiums with $uc gear on when “their team” is not even playing? I don’t get it.

Bad sc experience
I have a rather unique licence plate frame on my car bashing sc in a mild way. Twice I have been deliberately cut off by people whose cars sported sc stuff. The reason I know it was on purpose is they started throwing up their 2 finger salute when they did it. One car nearly hit me as he did so.
Sc fans are jerks, and dangerous.
by isodore on Sep 16, 2009 12:55 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Sorry, one other story...
Isodore’s auto story reminded me that, in my freshman year in the Fall of 1988, I had the personalized plates stolen from my car (was originally my Dad’s) while parked on Midvale. The plates said ‘UCLAX2’ since my sister and I were both attending that year.
The thief left a scrap of paper under the windshield wiper that simply said “Thanks very much, from a USC Fan”. Unbelieveable.
You can’t make this stuff up, and it is for that reason that the hatred of these punks runs deep with me.

Couple of things I've noticed about SC fans
- There are at least two things that are SC-related on their cars. Typically, there is a license plate frame and a window decal that are related to SC. Bonus points for: vanity plate, SC license plate on the front, trailer hitch cover, multiple decals, plush letters spelling out USC or Trojans on the rear deck
- They have to wear an all-matching outfit. Example: SC baseball cap, sweatshirt and sweatpants. In the case of my gym, matching t-shirt and basketball (HAH!) shorts.
- On Internet forums not related to college sports: their avatars are the SC logo. Their usernames have the word Trojan, USC or the phrase “Fight On.”

Alright, I have a confession to make
I don’t let people into my lane with SUC license plate frames.
