(Pete Carroll's) the perfect fit for USC because he knows how to attract future NFL talent. Does he know how to coach it, how to maximize it? No. He does not.

Regardless of content, I have no interest in Doyel's words
Much as Fox71 feels compelled to tell everyone to turn the volume down anytime an announcer is referenced, I must chime in again to say that I think it’s a bad idea to give Doyel (or TJ Simers for that matter) any credibility whatsoever. Yes, I know he’s slamming Pete Carroll here, and I realize there’s a temptation to indulge in a little schadenfreude. But it won’t be long before Doyel is ripping Neuheisel, Howland, or the Wooden era. Doyel is never insightful; always inciteful. I think it’s better to just dismiss him altogether.

yeah, but . . .
he makes a great point:
. . . first of six losses to unranked Pac-10 teams the Trojans have suffered under Carroll, a trend that continued Saturday when No. 3 USC lost to Washington. Given how good USC has been under Carroll, that’s a staggering number of losses to unranked teams. Still, Carroll usually gets a pass from critics. He’s a great coach. Almost everyone says so. Meanwhile, at Ohio State, Tressel gets no such free pass. His teams mangle the teams they’re supposed to mangle, but the Buckeyes have lost six consecutive games to opponents ranked in the top five, and the country laughs while the locals cry.

Here are other "points" Doyel has made
So who is Pete Carroll?
He’s John Wooden.
And we all know what the NCAA did to Wooden when he had UCLA basketball rolling:
The NCAA did nothing
and
it’s dangerous for the chastity of a UCLA basketball program that has had to overcome a tradition that includes Jim Harrick, Larry Brown and booster Sam Gilbert — who was breaking every NCAA rule known to man in the 1960s and early ’70s while John Wooden looked the other way.
Gregg Doyel is a disreputable individual. Just because his venom is directed at one of our rivals doesn’t make him any less of a scumbag.

Good catch then.
It’s one thing to compare Carroll to Wooden. Those who fawn all over his purported accomplishments have been trying to do it for years: ESPN, Plascke, Trojan Fans, etc.
But to accuse Wooden of looking the other way while Gilbert ran amok is just wrong. I concede your point. Doyel is a douchebag.

anytime ANYONE puts pete carroll where he rightfully belongs is ok with me. at least temporarily. but we all know that writers are fickle and simply write what gives them hits. if we are waiting for LA writers to kiss CRN’s ass, we will be waiting until CRN wins a championship or Rose Bowl. I have no doubt that it will happen, but I don’t mind celebrating pc’s downfall in the meantime.
