In two weeks, eight new members will be inducted into the UCLA Hall of Fame, including this man, Tyus Edney so why not bring this video back. The other members who will be inducted with Edney are no slouches either: James "Cap" Haralson, football/track & field; Cade McNown, football; Stein Metzger, volleyball; Nicolle Payne, water polo; J.J. Stokes, football; Daiva Tomkus, volleyball; and Walt Torrence, basketball. I'm sure over the next two weeks we'll talk more about Edney and some of these other Bruin greats, but let's start it off with this video.
P.S.- 42 days until our Ben Ball Warriors tip off.

I will never get tired of that video
rye – tweaked around with the formatting just a bit (for the video frame).
i wasn't even a ucla fan at the time...
…but that gives me chills. how awesome to win a game like that and then win a championship?
The best college point man I ever saw...
… getting inducted with the best college quarterback I ever saw. BE-YOO-TEE-FUL.
My wife got me my #18 jersey which I wear to every game… but I am STILL ticked off at myself for never getting a Tyus jersey when I had the chance.
Here’s hoping at least ONE of our stellar freshmen decides to wear #11, or else I may never get a Tyus-esque jersey before I die.

If I remember
Farmar was #11 his freshman year before switching to #1 the following year so you may have had a brief opportunity. I also heard that JF is trading in the Robert Horry #5 with the Lakers for #1. I hope he has better luck with it than the last two guys who wore it (Javaris Crittenton – shipped out of town, Smush Parker – being Smush Parker). The official site says that Reeves Nelson will wear #11, so if he blows up, you might get another shot.
And man...
take a look at the roster…

I spy a LOT of “FR” and “SO” on that list. I think this is a younger team than any CBH has ever had (at least here).
sophomore year...
…is the year that most basketball players take the biggest steps in their development. i think we will be better than everyone predicts. time will tell.
That's the maxim that I hope holds true for us
My concern is that we’re inevitably going to have to rely on some freshmen this year. Unless CBH is planning on going paper thin on depth, we’re going to need some frosh to step up, and everyone is going to have to get on the same page quickly, within the first 6-7 games or so, because we just lost a lot of our defensive anchors from last year and we can’t afford to still be feeling our way around heading into conference play.
#11 jersey
They even had #11 jerseys on clearance on sites like Eastbay when Farmar switched from 11 to 1.
I’d be surprised if they made a #11 right now. They will always make a #1, and I’m sure that they’ve got a huge surplus of #3 and #21 jerseys left over from Shipp and Holiday that they can now pass off as Lee and Lane jerseys.
makes ya wonder.....
what the Mizzou guys were thinking right after that. “uh, what just happened?”
Powder to the People
I remember a couple of things
As I recall, Norm Stewart said the refs not making the right decision on something, and of course that was quickly countered by criticism of him for not making the right decision about double-teaming the guy who got the inbound pass.
That was, to me, the strategy on the inbound pass is what won the game for us. If they make Edny give up the ball, who else is going to make something happen in 2 or 3 seconds.
Is there an induction ceremony for this?
If so, I’d love to attend. Although I might end up having a Billy Sims-type moment and start screaming “Yeah, baby!” over and over again.

There's an event a week from Friday night at the Hall of Fame
but I believe it’s invitation only. All eight members will be honored at halftime of the Oregon football game though.

Daiva Tomkus...
Brings back the memories from Saxon ‘K’ Bldg in 1988 when she lived with Lori Jones and a few other lovely volleyball ladies a few suites down. Made my freshman year SO much more enjoyable. Pretty darn good players too…good times….
I remember watching this game
I was 6 at the time and as soon as it was over and I was done jumping up and down, I went outside and tried to recreate the play for hours. My mom finally had to call me in to go to sleep because I was out there trying to do the full court run (on my less than full court, but that didn’t stop me), behind the back dribble and finish until I couldn’t see the rim it was so dark.

You were 6?!
You were SIX??!!
You were VI ???!!!!
I was a senior, in my apt on veteran, screaming with my roomates while my jerkwad neighbors banged on the wall for us to keep it down.
ho-lee lord, where has the time gone?

Class of Champions Baby!
Hey we were neighbors and classmates, Insomniacslounge! I was a senior, in my apt on Kelton. I was so freaked out I was watching from the other side of the apt. We had a tiny 19" tv. I was only sure it went in when the neighborhood exploded with cheering. Remember those mugs they passed out at graduation? “1995 Class of Champions!” I still have mine.
Ever since then, it has been my lifelong dream to get an audio file of “Yeah, baby!” so I can use it as my cell phone ringtone. I have yet to find it anywhere.
And to stay on topic — Yeah, baby – Tyus deserves this honor. As do they all.
Ah yes...
Those were the days, my friend!
Bruins were 8-0 vs $C in football during my years there
4 yrs undergrad, 2 yrs on staff, and 2 yrs grad school, encompassing the Novembers of 1991-98, the Victory Bell was always on the UCLA campus. I was spoiled.
Perhaps UCLA should invite me back in some capacity so we can start a new winning streak?

No kidding!
I went 8-0 in my 8 years in LA. Then I moved to NY and we lost 7 straight…but I see it’s not all my fault!
ps: I fell and broke our coffee table after jumping up and down from Tyus’s shot. we ate on a cardboard box after that for the rest of the year…but it reminded us every time why it was there, so we never got a new table.
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
Whoa, whoa, WHOA! SIX?!?!?
I was a first-year student…
… in LAW SCHOOL…
… in my studio apartment on Gayley, right next to the Chabad House…
… weeks behind on my Con Law reading…
… hearing the wave of screaming roll its way up from Maloney’s and whatever bar used to be around the corner from CPK…
You were 6?!?
Dayum.

Raise #11 to the rafters
Tyus was one of our greatest point guards ever, won an NCAA Championship, and was a fan favorite. Is there a reasonable chance UCLA will retire his number some day?
Ed O has had his jersey retired. The differences I see between these two players’ accomplishments are that Ed O was named National Player of the Year and Most Outstanding Player of the 1995 NCAA Tournament, and Ed had a higher scoring average. But I think most people who followed the Bruins would say Tyus was equally valuable to the team and just as successful at his position. Maybe some day #11 will rise to the rafters…and maybe that number will return to the campus bookstore!
This is another reason to love this site
great little pieces of information like this are all over the place.

Great ending
Missouri just could not miss from 3-point land in that game. If I remember correctly, Edney had a full-court sprint game-winner during the regular season, and the team practices that scenario, so it wasn’t surprising how relaxed Edney looked making that play. that was a very good athletic year for UCLA — a lot of NCAA titles. Still got my championship T-shirt, and it still holds up well after all these years.
So Cade's being inducted?
How’s he been? Will he attend? When he got to Chicago he received an avalanche of bad press. I’m not going to post it all here (it’ll take you 1 second and google to find it), but like how is he? Is he still proud to be a Bruin? The latest reports I heard about him were that he was a total primadonna and all of the Chicago media paints him as a general dick.
We have written and posted about him number of times
He is doing pretty well. Working in LA. Attending practices, Bruin functions. In fact I believe he was at practice in last two weeks. Just search the archives in BN.
More Chills
I had tickets for regionals in Oakland and could barely watch. I was on the phone thinking about selling them, and then the phone dropped and bedlam ensued. I was so pumped up after the incredible ending. One of the longest weeks of my life waiting to make the trip to Oakland. Got to see two great games and watch bruins advance to final 4. I keep playing the videos posted on here today. Go Bruins!!!!
What I remember most
is that it seemed impossible for him to dribble length of the court in time. What I remember about the replay is how he made a very difficult shot over a defender look easy. It kept alive the national championship hopes of a team that came together in the last ten games of the season. It was a team full of seniors that played great together. Ed O put together the only real streak of his life at just the right time. The sad thing in reading these posts is that i was 37 years old at the time. Fox 71 thank god for your post or I might have killed myself, lol.
