Fight On Stafon

SBNation.com's recently launched mothership blog has the complete coverage on Stafon Johnson's horrific accident. The great news is that Stafon is expected to make a full recovery.

The whole incident is scary, sobering, and it should put the world of sports and a rivalry in perspective. We already have two fanshots up and numerous comments throughout this community wishing Stafon well. I wanted to combine all of them in one place.  Send thoughts and prayers the way of Stafon and his family. If you want to send him a handwritten note you can send it here:

just crazy stuff

Such a freak accident and such a shame. Thankfully, it appears as if he will make a full recovery. We’re rooting for you Stafon.

Good to hear the prognosis

From what sounds like a really scary accident…hope he’s out of the hospital soon and makes a full recovery.

by Tydides on Sep 29, 2009 12:21 PM PDT reply actions

Get well soon, kid.

Fortunately, Johnson sounds like he was a strong, healthy kid before this accident occurred. Hope he makes a full recovery again, and that he gets back doing what he loves to do — play ball.

Prayers for him and his family, so they all come out through this OK.

BN is a thoroughly classy act...

I am no Trojan lover to be sure, but when I heard about this story, I felt very sorry for this young man. The kind words and sentiments are to be expected from such a class bunch here at BN from a class school like UCLA. Publishing the address for get well sentiments is an extremely nice touch. I’ll send him a note.

God, it's great to be a Bruin!

It pains me to say this, “Fight On”, nothing but good wishes for your speedy recovery.

This is just AWFUL

When I posted it last night, it sounded scary and serious but I didnt realize how bad until I read more reports. A 7 hour surgery and they “hope” he will be able to speak again? Wow, my thoughts are with him and his family and I hope for a full recovery!

Fight On.

A weaker man would not have survived the accident to begin with, and I have no doubts that he will make it back on the field. I wish you nothing but the best.

Here's to a speedy and full recovery

It’d be a shame for this talented young man to have his career end due to such a freak accident. Here’s hoping that he comes back soon and is able to continue playing ball.

by OutOThsWrld on Sep 29, 2009 3:22 PM PDT reply actions

All the best to a healthy and quick recovery.

This is just an awful way to end a season and brings sadness to the football world. Hope you can continue on in your football career.

Keep Fighting

It was a shock learning about the accident. I wish no one would ever go through this but your fighting spirit will get you through this.

I speak on my behalf but I can feel and say with confidence that the entire Bruins family wishes you a safe and speedy recovery.

Fight on!

Get well soon Stafon

My thoughts and prayers are with you for a speedy recovery.

I’ve been away from the BN board for a while, formally under a different name. Thanks Nestor for giving contact information to send a get well note. Very classy!

Instant perspective here, Stafon

You have my unconditional best wishes for a full recovery. I’m sure that I’m safe in saying that all Bruins wish you the same.

If you should make it back to the football field, we will welcome you whole-heartedly. If your injury should dictate that you pursue other interests, we wish you the same tough, fearless, and game-breaking desire that you showed on the field.

Godspeed, Stafon.

Perspective, Indeed

This sure puts sports, and a rivalry, in their very small place.

Whatever twist of fate keeps doing horrible things to young Trojan men needs to stop…now. Drean Rucker, Mario Danelo, Ryan Francis, to a lesser – but still incredibly crappy extent – Frankie Telfort, and now this horrible incident.

Get well – and soon – Stafon. We’re thinking about you.

Fight to get better

You will have some frustrating times ahead — stay focused, stay positive.

Do what your doctors tell you. Be a good patient. Improvement will be incremental, very slow at first, but soon there will be rewards.

We are pulling for you.

Get Well

I hope he makes a full and speedy recovery. I want to him to come back and play at his exceptional level so the Bruins can beat SC when they’re at full strength. All the best to Stafon and his family.

terrible injury

a lot of players get injured on the field (but not critically)…we can only wish for a full recovery. I hope Stafon makes it back on the field soon!

I can't even imagine...

what a horrific incident that must have been. It does sound like Stafon is made of steel, though, so I hope we’ll see him recover quickly and completely.

Get well soon

I can’t bring myself to say those two dreaded, hated words (for obvious reasons), but I do want to wish Stafon the best. Get well soon and make it back to the field as soon as possible.

Thank You Bruins Nation

I’ve never commented here because I’m not much of a trash talker. But your outpouring of support for Stafon is amazing and touching and truly helps. You are going beyond our fierce team rivalry and addressing the most important issue, Stafon Johnson’s life. Sports is just a fun distraction from real life when you get down to it. Everyone here at Bruin Nation is really acting with class and sympathy. Speaking for a lot of Trojans, I really appreciate it. Thanks.

by uscdude on Sep 30, 2009 7:51 AM PDT reply actions

Thank you for posting

As fierce as the rivalry may get, no one on either side should ever lose sight that, in the end, it is just a game and we want all players for all teams to be healthy and injury-free. It’s good to hear that Stafon is expected to make a full recovery and return to football, if he so chooses.

Get Well

As much as we like to poke fun at SC, it’s the health and welfare of student athletes from all universities that should be at the forefront of our thoughts. We wish Stafon the best in a rapid recovery!

Fight on Stafon!

I was horrified by the thought of what happened. It made me wince and choke in horror the same way all guys wince when we see someone hit in the nuts.

It is our rivalry on the field that makes us great Bruins and Trojans. But it’s the way we respect each other off the field that makes us all great human beings. I have never been more proud of the Bruin Nation. Stafon, we hope to see you at the UCLA/USC game this year. Best Wishes for a full and speedy recovery from the Bruin Nation.
