BN Game Day: San Diego State Second Qtr Open Thread
Okay up is down.
Down is up.
A nightmarish start for Bruin defense but special teams and offense (!) is keeping us in the game. Bruins are down 10-14 and with the ball.
Let's get the good mojo flowing in the second quarter open thread.
GO BRUINS.

How many true freshmen is that so far?

Each conference is different.
Don’t all Pac-10 reviews come from the booth?
How do they handle nonconference games? (Ask Oklahoma?)

every play is reviewed upstairs
if they want to take a closer look they buzz the refs
coaches get one challenge per game

Chalkboard
I’d like to watch the game and listen to the commentary.
But, Urkel’s voice is worse than fingernails on a chalkboard.
At least the mute button works on the remote.
Please don’t tell me that he’ll be doing all of the UCLA games this year.
Gifted from the aztecs
why thank you!

When you pull a trick play...
You kinda want to make sure that the rest of your team is on the trick

Our o-line looks great
Mike Harris looks like a beast of a man out there and they’re all creating a nice pocket for Prince, like on that last play.
With this offense...
…if our defense can be “dominant” like everyone thinks, we can be quite good..
i'm developing a huge crush
On KP. Does that make me a dirty old lady?

Looks like D coaches...
have figured out this mystery SDSU offense.
Easy money and faithless women, red-eye whiskey for the pain...
Can't afford mistakes like that
against SDSU or anyone. Those things come back.
greg in denver - UCLA guy for life
yeah look at tOSU today
that missed XP almost killed them
by bucknellbruin on Sep 5, 2009 6:01 PM PDT up reply actions
So is this our O much improved?
Or is it SDSU’s terrible defense? A combination of both? I love this.
Hester update
I’m at the game so I don’t know if they’ve said anything on Hester. He went into the locker room 2 series ago. Does anyone have an update on his status?
by Ryan Rosenblatt on Sep 5, 2009 6:00 PM PDT via mobile reply actions
Thanks
Viney took his spot. Please post his status if they give an update.

DE-FENSE
Step it up here guys and make a big play!
If we score before the half again, do you guys go for 2 to make up for the missed XP or just take the “easy” one?
hope he's not out too long
i hope its a quick recovery?
She said
a cracked fibula isn’t as bad as a cracked tibula. She meant tibia, So she is right, a tibial fracture is worse. But it’s still a broken leg. Just a guess, but that’s at least 4 weeks, depending on where the break is,
greg in denver - UCLA guy for life
Cracked right fibula...
Is that long term? Redshirt?
Missed XP
… is absolutely going to kill my UCLA -10 first half play
I'm torn...
…Franklin or Coleman? Can’t go wrong a I guess. Both!
Throw in Knox and Thigpen?
this will be a fun group to watch.

Is it just me...
Or are some of these situations ones that Craft would have threw an interception in?
Prince is at 134 yds and counting...
wow… I really missed good QB play

If the offensive performs like this
All year, then we will have lots of W’s.
true, it is SDSU
But we’re looking good so far in the first half against a good d-coordinator, we’re moving the ball, and we’re doing it multiple ways. That is dangerous for Norm Chow. Very optimistic now. Cut out the turnovers and get better and we’re definitely winning 7 games, at the very least.
One thing's for sure though...
This looks a heck of a lot better than the first half of the Tennessee game last year. (But I agree, don’t start predicting a 13-win season just yet!)
Nickel i'm ok with
just don’t play the CBs 15 yds off the line

Let's get some points
Another score before the half! GO BRUINS
QB stats
K. Prince 12 of 16 for 140 yds, 75.0%, 8.8/per attempt , 1TD, 0 INT

Personally
that’s a lot better than I had expected. Looking forward to the 2nd half.

So far, it hasn't slowed down
but, last year it would bog with lots of posts
How about leaving it unless it slows down?
sjh
After a shaky start by def
A very good half to start the year – very encouraged
makes sense since this was the 1st game
You kind of expect this
Prince
The kid’s got guts, swagger, a gun, smarts and wheels. The offensive line looks much, much better and is laying lead blocks for the rbs to run through and creating a pocket. And we still have to incorporate some more receivers and the tide ends. Offense looking great. 23 points in the first half. Not bad!
After brief internet search it looks life weeks, if not the season.
I hope not. Feel for the kid. Worse case scenario is a medical redshirt.
Depends on the location of the break
Nondisplaced fx → walking boot at least 4 weeks
Displaced fx → probable surgery, minimum 8 weeks
Displaced distal fib fx with ankle joint widening → definite surgery, probable12 weeks
greg in denver - UCLA guy for life
I don't know.
but I imagine so. Pro stadiums have them, so you’d figure D-1 stadiums would have similar capabilities.
Rye, do you know?

I hate injuries
It’s just so random and unfair to the players. I actually get depressed hearing about them.

Sam Bradford has a...
AC (acromioclavicular) “sprain”, which is actually a type of shoulder separation… depending on severity could mean between 3 weeks (no surgery) and many months (with surgery)

Student section
I certainly enjoyed the late September starts back when I was in school, but part of me wishes that UCLA started fall quarter in time for the students to fill up the Den at the start of the season. The first half sounded pretty quiet and I’m sure our defense would appreciate a bit of noise to give them that extra advantage.
I have Den tickets
But I’m at home. I had to stay for family reasons. I wish I was at the Rose Bowl though…
Da Den
I’ve tried during the entire game to get our Bruin grad up and cheering. What did I hear “Mom, I sat in the student section for four years not being able to see so I had to move to the back. I cheered until I couldn’t talk. It’s time to rest.”

I Live on the East Coast
And I just purchased the fox sports package for $5/month so I could watch a few UCLA games. I must say it’s been a few years since I’ve been exposed to FSN’s coverage but the USC raw raw is pretty sickening. I remember why I hated it back then… At least I get to watch my Bruins
same old songs played by their brass section - puke. Our dog growled at the cheerleaders! LOL!

I hope we get this protection next week
Because the Univ of Tenn D will be coming hard next week!
i guess he's not redshirting!
all around player!

Glad we are using him.
Hope he has a big play or two against UT, who basically dumped him when Kiffen took over.
Then a time out!!!!
What fans that are there must be loud (even though most of the SDSU fans are at that end)
Guys - it's ok to be crticial of someones play
But no need to badmouth our kids. We are Bruins … let’s not act like Trojans.
