Bumped. Amazing stuff from Tele. GO BRUINS. -N
Doing something a little different this season. Got a new toy, a tiny Kodak Zi8 HD minicam, which I can get into the stadium. Spent all night fiddling with the video; unfortunately not at the level of quality I would like, but it should give those not at the game more of a feel of being there. I just have the pregame and the first half for now (*yawn*). Take a look after the jump.
Here's a little bit of pregame activities and the opening kickoff.
Next up is the Bruins' opening drive resulting in a 49-yard Kai Forbath field-goal.
Last video has bits and pieces of the three touchdowns scored in the first half.
Did manage to take some photos - here's a taste; more later in a future post.

Great start to the season. Go Bruins!

Goose Bumps!
from the opening video — the 8 clap in the stands.
I really miss going to the games. Your tapes really add part of the missing dimension.
Thanks, so much.

PS. I’m looking at the Flip Ultra HD. Your Kodak seems to have done well. How did you get such steady images?
PPS. I can’t find the “Rec” button. Is it old eyes or has it been moved?

66, Glad you like the vids!
The Zi8 has image stabilization, although in my limited experience so far it doesn’t stabilize a huge amount. So I do have to really concentrate on holding the camera still and to pan slowly.
A little info on the videos, since you’re in the market for these little cams: The videos were taken from one row from the top of the stadium (Later, I’ll be posting one taken from the lower section). I used Pinnacle Studio for editing, using pan and zoom (at about 170%) for second two clips. I’ve found the digital zoom on the camera can add noise.
A couple of notes about the camera itself: Occasionally it records a bit of a whine in the videos – I fixed that by using a cheap plug-in mic. The camera has frozen up on me a few times when starting a recording, requiring disconnecting and reconnecting the battery to get it working again. I’m theorizing that it may be due a flaky memory card, but I am not sure. Annoying…but I do like the camera overall.
Good luck with your selection.
Not sure what types of tips you're looking for...
What kind of cam do you have?
Positive: you’re closer to the field than me. Negative (probably for you): I stand in front of the stair access to the press box the entire game and so have a mostly unobstructed view and a lot of flexibility without bugging my neighbors.
I would just say: Hold the camera as still as possible. When panning, go slow. Use zoom with discretion and avoid digital zoom as much as possible, especially at the far end. Bring extra batteries and memory cards. Hardest thing is controlling your emotions so you can “get the shot.” I learned this from many years of filming my daughter’s club basketball games.
Good luck!
TY
I’m on the aisle, so it makes it a bit difficult. I got a cheep memorex cam @ best buy. It’s HD and much better than my still cam for video. I’ll try to get some shots, I got a few last night just for practice. Battery life on the cam seems pretty good and I have an extra 4GB memory card.
The videos are delightful
It reminded me of what it was like to watch the game from the Rose Bowl stands.
Thanks again Tele.
I'm going to miss it too....
We had to give up our season seats this year due to wife’s job issues. We went to the SDSU game thanks to seats from a buddy, ok, he was the honorary team captain.:) .Thanks Tim..We had a great time!
I’m hoping to buy some single game seats later on so I can get my Bruin fix :)
Shout out to my old gang in Section 1, row 28!
I may work with the Waves, but I'm still a Bruin!
