UCLA Continues To Gather Recruiting Momentum: Gets Commitment From Wade Yandall
This was an expected boost coming out of this recruiting weekend. Wade Yandall, a 6'4 300lb OL from Carson High School committed to UCLA per Chris Foster from the LA Times. Yandall also took official visits to Arizona, Arizona State, Washington and Oregon, but narrowed his choices to Arizona schools and UCLA. Greg Biggins from tWWL had this to say about Wade couple of days ago:
Yandall said he grew up a Bruin fan and everyone in his family is a fan as well. He has also said location and the opportunity to play close to home will be a factor so a commitment on or shortly after the visit seems very likely. Yandall had a very good senior season earning 1st team all-city honors as well as area lineman of the year.
Wade sounds like a great kid and a prototype Bruin student athlete. Check out the video profile LAT did on him last October:
Haven't seen the news confirmed yet on Bruin Report Online. If they confirm the news, he would show up as the 17th commitment in our current class. You can check out his scout.com profile over here. He would be a solid get because we can never have enough guys available to play in the trenches. More recruiting and Trojan schadenfreude note after the jump.
Meanwhile, Raisin points out that another Trojan commit - Xavier Gimble - is looking to schedule a trip to UCLA:
Grimble has no recruiting trips scheduled, but said LSU, Florida and UCLA are all possibilities. He will probably travel to UCLA next weekend.
Grimble said he would wait to see what transpires at USC before making a decision, but plans on keeping his options open. He said schools like LSU and Florida have said their scholarship offer is still good.
"I have to back track a little bit and look at a few schools just in case," Grimble said.
Grimble said he tried to contact Carroll on Friday, but still hasn't heard back. He did talk to USC quarterback Matt Barkley, who encouraged Grimble to stay committed.
Poor poor Matty. Must be rough to him these days to feel so "disrespected" by his hero.
How bad it is over there? They are getting talk to the hand/Heisman pose from Steve Sarkasian. Yikes.
GO BRUINS.
UPDATE (N): Yandall's commitment has been confirmed by BruinBlitz. Welcome to Westwood Wade. GO BRUINS.
UPDATE II (N): Commitment is now confirmed by BRO. Good stuff. GO BRUINS.

This is the 2nd Carson Colt we nabbed in as many years (Morrell last season).
Wade’s a great young man and his head is in the right place…I’m gonna enjoy watching him in Bruin blue.

God Wanted Him To Be A Bruin
I read on scout.com Yandall is super religious and has been quoted as saying he was going to ‘consult with God’ before choosing a school.
When I saw that I thought of the shirt that says ‘God must be a Bruins fan because he made the sky blue and the sun gold.’. We all once believed in that shirt but our faith was shaken in Miami back in ‘99. It’s now semi-official that God is again a Bruins fan.
Scott Wolf Blogs About Self Produced Mike Garrett & Norm Chow Rumors
Now Scott Wolf wants Norm Chow to coach at USC. Mike Garrett and USC are doing two things right now: Making tearful phone calls to former coaches and desperately trying to keep their recruits from going to UCLA.
That is funny!
sc is getting out of a 9 year relationship, during which they tolerated and justified a cheating, lying, pompous significant other. Now they need counseling, therapy, and a rebound guy to get over their man-crush.
Comedy
Garrett is in a state of denial
Garrett doesn’t understand the NCAA by next fall may be ready to move on the lack of institutional control issue. The Reggie Bush litigation depositions will be completed (including Carroll’s) and the results will have been leaked and the NCAA will have their grubby hands on the transcripts. Sample will be gone as will Carroll and any settlement with th NCAA will require Garrett “retire”; of course, an entirely honorable retirement. Now whether Garrett knows this is irrelevant. It’s what potential head coaches think. The smarter candidates will sense NCAA sanctions are at hand and pass on the chance to struggle on at the Figueroa Continuation School. And if Garrett loses his job as part of an institutional control settlement—what head coach relishes the chance to work for an AD who didn’t hire her or him?
The best thing Garrett can do for his beloved trojans is to quit. That will allow Sample to hire someone clean who can negotiate a NCAA settlement in an environment where most of the toxic participants are gone. Obviously, other characters have to go—the entire compliance chain of command for example.
Now will Garrett do the honorable thing? Unlikely. So when Garrett calls, smart coaches will say to the switchboard operator, “Tell Mike I am in a meeting and the meeting is gonna last until he hires a new coach.”
By the way Mike, if you are reading this, I’m just kidding and beyond that I cannot comment.

I think you're right
I have doubts that just$c will ever hear from the ncaa, but that’s my natural pessimism based on seeing decades of cheating go unpunished. A proven coach considering his career might want think that the money (and it will be big money) wouldn’t be enough. Not only would he have to think that despite what Fox 71 thinks, there really might be sanctions and would he want to be involved with that. Even if sanctions are still only looming, you have to think that the likely candidates would be ones who wouldn’t balk at bending a few pesky rules, and they might not want to have their actions scrutinized too closely. Also, any new coach would have to consider that he would be following a coach who won a lot of games (no matter how.)
If you’re looking for your first HC position, though, it might be perfect. If you win, you’re a hero. If you lose, it’s Cheatie’s fault. That said, I doubt if the Boss Hogg of just$c (whoever that is) will let Garrett hire someone who’s untested.
I hope you're wrong
Garrett’s falling on his sword makes all kinds of sense, and would hasten their recovery, me thinks, which is why I hope you’re wrong.
It's pure comedy
I love how they’re trying to get their “dream team” back together. LOL!
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
I like this kid!
Smart. Ferocious attitude. Good size.
I don’t care if he ever makes the rotation or not. He seems like a perfect warrior to make the team better. Good get.
welcome to westwood!
just keep the great news coming. love his size.. but his heart and character seem to be the best reason to be a Bruin!

Can anyobdy recap how many fofers are out and how many slots we have unaccounted form (verbal or written)?
I’d hate to think our slots get used up by mid-level/ undersized talent when blue-chippers are possibly still out there. I know star rankings are by no means accurate, but height and weight are height and weight.

That's 'offers' and "unaccounted FOR'.
I am just out of it this weekend.

Hey I’m new to the site Iam a us marine just back from Afghanistan but more than that i bleed blue and gold, any word on uko or hemuili
Hey MB
Uko is still “committed” to the Trojies as of right not but will be considering all his options.
Hemuili is still on the table. We are in it but my gut tells me we will have tough competition from a school like BYU.
And … welcome back!
I think we snag Heimuili
It’s far from a done deal, but I think we get him and it may be the biggest get in the ’10 class if we can get him because he is a tackle who is ready to step in and play as a freshman. Uko, even if he does leave SC I think will go elsewhere, but we should be in it so who knows what CRN can pull out.
MB, good to have you back and thank you for your service.

What's with Utah?
Producing some great line recruits in recent years.
Could Heimiuli be this year’s XSF? Getting Heimuili would also be another huge get for Chow as he has been the point person for him. Last year he brought in XSF.
I was reading something a couple years ago
about how Utah has ridiculously high participation in football. The percentage if kids who plays football in the state is well above the average and the success of BYU in the 80’s, then Utah and BYU this decade has spurred interest in the sport. It’s very much a football state so they’re going to continue churning out players. As for why they tend to be big guys as opposed to skill players, I don’t know, but as long as Chow and Co. continue to recruit the state well, I’m okay with it.

Utah has a high population of LDS kids, and a high percentage of Pacific Islanders tend to be LDS due to the missionaries that visited the islands in the early 1900s…so there is an above-average PI population in Utah. That is why a lot of the Polynesian kids end up playing for Utah/BYU, as well as the northwest schools, the bay area schools, and the LA schools.

My son, a UCLA grad, is enlisting in the US Army OCS program
And hopes to follow in your footsteps in Afghanistan. My hat’s off to you for your service. You obviously bleed red, white and blue, too.
Semper Fi.
GO BRUINS!
Hey I love the Marines but
Army leads the way!
I think we gotta put him next ayers. I saw him play a few years ago he is a strong runner but I don’t think he is gonna fit in the stable that crn has put together. Though I think he sharlot alot of similarities with Brandon jacobs but ultimately I hope he is chasing Gilbert all over the field next sept in Austin
The Warriors Prayer and 328 days from today
If you can’t get the video on a mobile system or you are too gosh darn lazy to click on the video or because it is a clip prepared by the Los Angeles Times, to do so would violate the fundamental tenets of your religious beliefs, let me lift this onerous burden from your weary shoulders.
Wade quotes from a passage in the Warriors Prayer and it is pricless, “Have mercy on my enemies for I will not, Amen.”
Wade, so you know, 328 days from now is December 4, 2010 which is when we play the trojans in the Rose Bowl. We expect you to pray that prayer and then go out and prey on their defensive linemen for 60 full minutes.
And Wade, you look great in Blue.
Bryce Schwab decommitted yesterday
From San Marcos and a JC transfer. 6’8’ 315. Wonder if we have a shot there?
Don't think we are recruiting him
UCLA doesn’t really go after JCs unless they can feel confident they have a good shot of getting them through admissions (and even then sometimes they get burned, See Brandon Warner last year).
It's very, very, very tough to get JCs into UCLA
I’ll see what I can find out about his status, but I doubt that he’d clear admissions.

ESPN is reporting that Ken Norton Jr
will be joining PC staff in Seattle as linebackers coach. The rats keep jumping ship and the news keeps getting better and better.
another recruiting hit!
This weekend just keeps getting better day by day.
That is why
he didn’t leave to come to UCLA. He always wanted to get to coaching in the NFL, and Petey was just his ticket. It’s all about Ken.
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
Spencer Havner just scoring the tying TD
for Green Bay with 1:52 to go in their playoff game.

Watch the slo-mo replay
and notice how he watches the ball all the way into his body, tucks it in, and THEN takes off, makes a nice move, and embarrasses a DB with a rude stiff-arm.
Not bad for a linebacker.
That was AWESOME!
GO BRUINS!!!

Good to see
Yandell news. Definitely have concerns with bigs up front given Hasiak and Su’a-Filo situations. All in all, looks like a pretty good class shaping up.
nice to see Havner just score a TD for Green Bay.
