[Updated w Bruin Denial] Trojan Honk Wolf Floats Rumor: Leach To Be New UCLA OC If Chow leaves

Bumped. It's a rumor clearly. If Wolf is thinking this rumor will hurt UCLA, he is just laughably out of touch. If anything this rumor shows Neuheisel and UCLA can play the media game too. However, if there is something to this, just wow. GO BRUINS. -N

Wolf has just reported rumor mongered on his blog (Daily News) that CRN will hire Mike Leach at UCLA if Chow leaves for SC:

We hear UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel will hire former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach if Norm Chow goes to USC.

That that is great news!  I am actually feeling pretty good about things now.  CRN's motto should be DON'T FLINCH, DON'T FLINCH BABY!!

This is incredible news.  It shows that CRN won't take a backseat to anyone and will do whatever it takes to keep the passion bucket full of optimism.  What a move that would be, and it would be an incredible counter punch to Mike Garrett and the losers at SUC.  In fact, I kinda want it to happen now and see all the fireworks.  The rivalry is really heating up and this is proof that CRN means business.  CRN can go to recruits in their homes and show how loyal his is to his players, the university, and to the area.  This is incredible.

UPDATE (N): UCLA has pushed back on this hard:

I have just been emphatically told by a UCLA official that former Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach would NOT be under consideration for a position at UCLA should the need arise. Should being the operative word.

It's a good sign that the Morgan Center is all over Trojan rumors right now. GO BRUINS.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

You're taking Wolf at his word?

With all due respect, as I’ve seen many good posts from you, over the past couple of days BN has been flooded with rumors and “I hear…” and “Sources say…” Until we hear something directly from Chow, his agent, CRN, or the UCLA SID, I’m not putting a lot of faith in much of anything I hear. If Chow leaves and if we hire Leach, it could be interesting…but we’re swimming in if’s right now.

this is a joke

do you mean it as a joke?

“Rumor of the day” “We hear that…”

Is this joke or serious?

If its a joke delete it right away.

If it’s serious then provide a link. Don’t want to waste fanposts with jokes today. Thanks.

Wolf is a notorious $C honk/ lapdog/ stooge.

Don’t even bother with him. Gold is still green as a beat writer, but he’s the only media guy on the ground at Westwood.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they're floating this to SCARE our recruits...

… or at least our recruits’ PARENTS.

Actually disagree on this M

If Wolfie is floating this to screw our recruiting, it’s a dumb move. If anything it will impress them that Neuheisel means business and not backing down.

Just don’t believe this though. It’s crazy.

If true

I would open the door for Chow, and help him pack. But I just don’t see how it can be.

by bluebland on Jan 13, 2010 12:24 PM PST up reply actions

if he signed a 5 year contract

with humongous buyout money, at the same price we are currently paying Chow, I’m all for it.

If we sign him with any possibility he bails after a year for something else (better paid / bigger school / HC gig /etc etc) then it is counterproductive.

No, it's not -- look what he did in Oklahoma and Kentucky in one year

His system takes no time to implement. Even 1 or 2 years of him would be very worth it, IMO.

Slightly different situation, I think

From a recruiting perspective, the uncertainty would be more palpable and relevant, I think.

Learning his system is fine, but only if we are then committed to sticking to it and not then going to another system after he leaves.

I was absolutely in favor of leach as a head coaching candidate. Not as a likely one-and-done OC.

While enticing

I can’t help but not believe that Leach would come on board as an OC. I think he’s convinced that he’ll get a HC gig somewhere else, and despite the scandal he’s coming off of, someone’s going to pick him up.

My bad. From above link:

That was fast

UCLA official all over it. Guess they are fully aware of the rumor mongering going on at SC right now.

Why would Leach go from $2.4 million as a HC to $700,000 as an assistant?

KS.........

I appreciate your words to me, thank you. I am a Bruin fan who really wants us to stand up and push back against the bad guys across town. I am a huge Mike Leach fan, so I got a little excited about the possibilities of him coming over. I am not a fan of him as a person, but I love bigtime offense and wide open play. That is why I got super excited and sent the post without really giving it much thought. While my analysis of the situation may have been a little over the top, I was truly feeling good for the first time in a few hours since I felt Kiffin was hired. I also love Chow and think that this coming year would be his coming out party. I have been disgusted by the situation, and when I heard we might get Leach, I was happy. Gold was just on 710 radio and said it won’t happen, no way, no how. Absolutely false rumor by Wolf. No biggie. To me, what is more important is that CRN won’t take a backseat and will hire a dynamic and exciting coach to oversee the offense.

It's all good

We have edited the post. Now it looks fairly on point. Might be worth it to take extra 5-10 mins before we post to just check it quickly in terms of the source, content and make that note in the post. Keep it coming muircoach. Love your contributions to BN.

Keep the energy and the info coming.

All hands on deck!

Hey don’t dis the mad scientist. I would love it. His scheme is actually sple only 20 or so plays just out of slot of different looks. We absolutley have the personal, Franklin james and thigpen would thrive in this offense. He is a great recruiter and has ties to texas and the Mormon community. The scheme takes pressure off the o line and And leaves lots of horizontal oppurtunuties for are small shifty backs, it also takes slot of burden off prince who struggled make reads from under center and throwing the deep ball. He wouldn’t have to wait for a play to develop as much and he could utilize his speed much more often. I hope we keep cnc but this hire would be phenomimal
