This is the NCAA's Waterloo. If USC does not suffer severe repercussions that make it all but impossible for them to compete on a national level for five years in both major sports, the idea that the rules mean anything is over.

Garrett not only is daring the NCAA with his actions
but even double daring them with his words
“USC athletic director Mike Garrett on the NCAA investigation into the Reggie Bush situation.
‘We think we have a case and will fight that case.’ ’’
Very good article by some Michigan guy
I think it’s worth reading and also worth forwarding to the ncaa. Also, you need to click on the reference to hot dogs, and read an essay on hot dogs reportedly written by Christopher Walken. It’s funny, and I really can hear Walken saying those words.
Excellent points.
Well lets see if NCAA brings the hammer or continues to treat $C like a spoiled child that gets everything they want.
Two Big Ifs
If the appropriate sanctions are levied and if $C Litigates – two admittedly huge ifs – it will be interesting to see how the PAC-10 commision weighs in. Will they attempt to run interference for the $UCsters or will they remain subservient to the NCAA? Has the PAC-10 commision already abrograted their responsibility for compliance monitoring of their own schools to the NCAA or only in this case? The PAC-10 has been conspicuously quiet throughout this entire affair.
If just$c* litigates, wouldn't the ncaa be entitled to do some discovery?
I will help all I can to prep the ncaa’s lawyer for Cheatie Petie’s depo. That would truly be a labor of love.
Five gates for SUC.
1. Bushgate.
2. Mayogate
3. McKnightgate..
4. Kittygate.
5. Ogregate.
Bottom line: when you’re charged with a “lack of control” you make the problem exponentially worse by making a panic stricken manchild hire while simultaneously trying to poach players from the old school and a coach from your chief rival. Not very smart, losers.
I expect major sanctions coming down the pike now that Petey is gone.
I think Lane Kiffin is Just a Placeholder . . .
. . . who’s going to take the fall for whatever punishment the NCAA dishes out, and then quit or be fired in a couple of years. While Mike Garrett is no rocket scientist, I think some Machiavelli at U$C has whispered into his ear. The Ogre’s major recruiting violation yesterday is only going to add to the glory.
Bleeding powderkeg blue and gold for 55 years. Go Bruins!
Hmmmm...
I really don’t know if they thought that far ahead. The trOJies have really been dying to recreate their little “Camelot” from the glory days and probably think they’ve nailed it by bringin The Ogre and The Kitten back to Inheritance Hall.
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
I kind of agree with DD
While I agree more with tasser10 re: U$C’s ability to think that far ahead, I do think Lame Kitten is simply a placeholder. I don’t think U$C is thinking more than one step ahead, because well, they’re U$C and they’ve made stupid decisions at every possible turn.
But, that being said, here is how I see this playing out (whether planning by the trOJans or if it simply falls into place as such):
1. Petey runs off to Seattle, while U$C brings Lame and the Ogre back to Inheritance Hall.
2. Petey has a decent season or two in Seattle, especially in a lackluster NFC West, with the totally impotent Rams and the back-to-normal terrible Cards (as in once Warner retires, Boldin is traded, and Fitz leaves in free agency). The Niners do well, but not great, which makes Seattle look decent.
3. Lame posts a 10-2 season, winning with the recruits Petey brought in. NCAA brings in minor sanctions but the U$C cheat machine rolls on.
4. Things start to fall apart at U$C after Lame posts a 8-4 season.
5. Barkley leaves early for the NFL after it’s clear Lame is running the program into the ground. Petey drafts his favorite love boy in the first round to “solve” Seattle’s lack of a true QB.
6. Barkley implodes as a rookie as Petey sucks it up at his third NFL franchise.
7. After Lame posts a 6-6 season. Meanwhile, Lame and the Ogre get caught in scandal after scandal. M’s list becomes so long, Conan jokes about it as the “Longest Internet Rant Ever” from ABC or FOX.
8. Tired of U$C thumbing their nose at the rules, and tired of looking like a lame duck organization with increased calls for reform and a football playoff instead of the BCS, the NCAA decides to make U$C an example and brings down the hammer. No death penalty, but severe scholarship restrictions, a postseason ban, and fewer recruiting calls/visits.
9. Tired of failing to reach the playoffs in a weak NFC West, the Hawks get over Cheatey and show him the door.
10. U$C scapegoats Lame and Ogre (without ever mentioning the running history of cheating started by Cheatey himself).
11. Pope Petey the Pious I returns to Inheritance Hall to “right the ship” and “return the trOJans to glory.”
12. trOJans everywhere fallate themselves over Cheatey’s “glorious return.” Rumor mongers stir up BS claims of Chow returning to U$C, before he declines to work for pompous a**hole Cheatey.
