Around SBN: Penn State Recruiting Roundup Is Set For A Big Junior Day

Here was that much talked about exchange between Dan Patrick and CRN. It's a classic.

CRN is so genuine, centered, confident and committed.

Hard to believe a high school recruit would choose SUC and Lameboy over his living room pitch ever.

GO BRUINS!

My vote for best line

Does it say more about me or CRN

that he can reference pop culture and the Grammys better than I can?

Thanks for that Nestor.

Really gets me pumped for next season.

Terry Bradshaw on Kiffin--different from CRN on DP

About 11:55 a.m. today Bradshaw said this (or words very close to these) on the FOX NFL pregame show about the sc’s highly respected new football coach, “Lane Kiffin, I don’t even know how that guy could get a job.”

Bradshaw is an integrity guy. Like all of us Terry fails (ask his ex-wives), but he strives to do the right thing. Earlier this season Bradshaw excoriated Brett Favre for being incandid (I think that’s permissible English) about his feelings versus Green Bay. Bradshaw has Kiffin’s number.

Yes, they predicted

Carroll will be a failure in the NFL and Lame will be a failure at SUC. SUC will fire Lame in 4 years and Carroll will be back a la Jay Leno

Anyone with more infomation about Brett Nottingham;

“Monte Vista High quarterback Brett Nottingham changed his mind about UCLA and will be staying close to home to play college football, …” from the Tri-Valley Herald.
If I missed this somewhere, sorry, I just got online today.
Not really worried, as the quarterback situation seems to be well in hand for the next few seasons, and it of course frees up an additional scholarship, but found the timing odd.

I don't think I've ever listened to anything quite like that.

That was the Rick Neuheisel show, with his sidekick Dan Patrick. He was candid. He didn’t hesitate, no uh’s. He was clever. He traded jabs with the host, he was funny, he was humble. He was suitably respectful to Lame and to Cheatie Petie. He didn’t hesitate to say that he thought Lame would last longer than Cheatie Petie and added the because – because NFL coaches don’t generally last a long time.

I think everyone recruiting every kid should play that tape and then play any two or five or ten minutes of Lame. In fact, I assume that all the recruits know the difference between Lame and Coach Neuheisel. UCLA, through Coach Neuheisel, represents life and joie de vivre. just$c* represents death and the Grim Reaper. If any kid chooses just$c* over UCLA, he would have to be (1) so unintelligent that he couldn’t get into UCLA in the first place, or (2) getting paid quite a bit.

Joie de vivre versus the Grim Reaper?

Maybe recruits should be made to ride this guy’s boat

before signing up for SUC football?

Troy HAS fallen...again, again, and again.

my favorite line

was when he said “that’s another radio host calling, but he plays hurt,” while his cell was blowing up. Ha! Gotta love Rick. He’s quick.

Time for the demise of “Slick Rick” and the recognition of “Quick Rick.”

What the hell with Nottingham!

It seems casting some doubt on Norm’s commitment scared him away. Those sleazy f-ing Trojans. Can this get anymore dissentious? Hopefully Rick can find another qb, because we just lost the #20 in the country and he looked pretty good.

by bruin95 on Jan 16, 2010 1:58 PM PST reply actions

nah

That was an excuse to switch. Who knows what the real reason is.

by Bruin'96 on Jan 16, 2010 2:45 PM PST up reply actions

he got admitted to Stanford

he played us as his backup, and when his first choice came through, dumped us.

I don’t have a problem with that, but don’t give interviews saying how you are firm to UCLA and doing the stanford trip just for fun 24 hours before you decommit. Its not very classy.

Maybe we can flip Cassius Marsh.

Gold’s reporting that he is on campus for an official visit. If any of you see him at the BB game, let us know. Of course, maybe he just wants to watch the game. Who knows?

by EdO'B3017 on Jan 16, 2010 2:52 PM PST reply actions

If we can seal the deal with Marsh, Barr, and Heimuli

this weekend, it’ll be huge. I trust CRN and staff can pull this off. Then work on those suc commits or/and leans like Uko, DRiley.

QB

Isn’t exactly a position of need, we probably have two better quarterbacks already.

Your so right though, this weekend is huge. These are the type of recruits that can raise the level of our program very quickly. Rare to have such major swings this late in the game.

by Bruin'96 on Jan 16, 2010 5:52 PM PST up reply actions

CRN

is so smooth. He flows very well, but every word is carefully chosen. He doesn’t leave anything out there to use against him, although he also leaves plenty of room for interpretation and insinuation. Goddamn I love having an attorney for a coach; he’s quick, funny, aware, and makes our program look good.

I wonder if

the Ben Ball game dampered on our recruiting efforts?

I hope you guys end up smoking USC both...

…on and off the field(recruiting). I used to have a lot of respect for USC back in the 70’s(and before I was born, they had class). I have grown to despise them under Carroll and now with Lame, they will have even less class.

Auburn and Tennessee fans are a lot like Slinkys...neither are worth much but you do get a sense of satisfaction from pushing them down a flight of stairs
