Who are you rooting for: Texas or Alabama?
Who will you be rooting for in the BCS championship game? Texas (the school of Vince Young)? Alabama (school with a great fanbase that gave us great memories lat decade)? Neither because you are just disgusted with BCS and rather go with Boise or TCU. I am not sure who I am going to be rooting for but the game should be fun. Thought I put up a poll here to see what others are thinking? This would be a good thread to have a discussion on that game. GO BRUINS.

ugh...don't want either to win
nothing against either school personally, but I can’t stand to see the SEC win anything and I just don’t think Texas earned their spot. I guess Texas is the lesser of two evils, because if they beat Bama…they’ll have earned it lol.
I think I’m rooting for an ugly, 3-2 Texas win and a TCU blowout so that they get half the national title :)
Has there ever been a player better than Detlef Schrempf?
huh?
texas has lost one game in two years and you think they haven’t earned a shot at the championship? with all due respect, come one maaaan…

If you say this

You need a reality check because if you go undefeated in a BCS (no matter how lopsided it is in the Big XII or SEC) there really isn’t an argument for the Non-BCS teams right? At least to sportswriters.
I’d say Alabama because we can beat them (We beat Tenn by 4, they won by 2), and I don’t want to hear how they won the national championship when we go to Austin next year

That looks bad,
The first sentence should say: If you say this, you need a reality check

"At least to sportswriters"???
Sportswriters as a group are right about as often as my stock broker.
TCU has two lop-sided wins over RPI Top 20 teams, while Texas has only one very narrow RPI Top 20 win. Boise State’s only chance to show what they could do against a BCS power team was against Oregon, which they thoroughly manhandled. So how do you know they couldn’t compete against Alabama or Texas?
To me, it doesn’t even matter if you believe Alabama and Texas are the two best teams. If other teams can win every game they play, and then have to watch on television while someone else plays for the “championship,” that is not a legitimate championship.
i strongly disagree with this

TCU’s schedule was arguably more challenging than Texas’. TCU beat Clemson and Virginia non conference (both on the road), and destroyed Utah and BYU in conference. If you don’t recall, Utah and BYU both put beatdowns on Pac 10 teams that finished in the top half of the conference. Texas’ best win is against Oklahoma, but BYU beat Oklahoma too.
Obviously this argument has 2 sides and could go on forever, but being in a BCS conference doesn’t guarantee you will play a more difficult schedule. Texas scheduled 4 cupcakes, then played in a down Big XII. They played 3 teams with a pulse – TTU, Oklahoma and Nebraska. All were close games, and arguably, none of those teams are as good as BYU, Clemson or Utah.

I’m not saying that I agree with the sportswriters
I’m saying that if you go undefeated in a BCS conference, there is no way that you’ll be jumped by a non BCS school.

I'm kind of rooting for Texas
I wanted one of the outcasts to be in the national championship game, so that there would be more evidence that the BCS system is abhorrent. I keep hoping against hope that all the BCS conference will have no undefeated teams (except the Bruins, of course) and that Boise State and TCU and some of the others would have to be in the NC game, but alas that may not happen. Bottom line for me is that this is not the year to root for one school or the other because of the impact it will have on the BCS system.
That leaves the fans. We had a great guy from ‘Bama show up and talk about food, but we’ve also had great interaction with Longhorns. I remember being at the Rose Parade the Vince Young year, and thought the Longhorn fans were really great people. (And some very attractive people, not that there’s anything wrong with that.)
Hence, I’ll be rooting for Texas. With the sound off, of course.
Bama
No allegiance to either team but there is something about the simplicity of their uniforms and their deep history that makes me vote their way. Not a big Mack Brown fan but other than that no problem with Texas. Besides, Texas has a recent national championship (wasn’t that sweet) and I selfishly don’t like anyone except UCLA getting a run of those.
Texas
I would just like someone to put a sock in all that SEC invulnerability talk. Not to mention I have a soft spot for Texas after that Rose Bowl against those clown from South Central. Much like that year, nobody is giving these Longhorns much of a chance. And, who doesn’t love an upset?
The best thing you can do for your children is to love their mother. John Wooden
Alabama
Can’t root for a Mack Brown team after he whined his way past Cal in the polls.
And, three of my favorite Bruins live in Alabama. Enough reason right there.

my Godfather now lives in Alabama. Roll Tide!

Aw, you're too nice 66
I’ll be content in some way no matter who wins. On one hand, it’s hard for me to root against Texas because of what they did four years ago, and I worked with some Texas Exes on my sorority and they were great ladies to work with.
On the other hand, Alabama fans really like us. Back in October, Mr. BB and I went to the airport to pick up his mom. There was an Alabama fan who was also there to pick up a relative on the same flight. He saw Jonathan in his UCLA outfit (it was a Saturday, and as they say around here, the good Lord intends for you to go out in your school colors) and he says, “Well, I hope you guys give it to $c pretty soon.” We talked a little more and he said, “Well, I hope you stay out here after your husband finishes school. We need more good people like you out here.” It’s hard to root against that.

Texas
only because I hate the SEC more than the BIG XII. I don’t want to hear Bama fans chanting S-E-C at the end of the BcS game.
Texas
My brothers both married Texans and they and almost all my nieces and nephews live there. Can’t root against the Longhorns unless they’re playing us Bruins.
btw, if you don't like the BCS system your only recourse is
Not to watch the game. Only if ratings start to fall will the networks push the NCAA for a playoff system.
Of course, all of us football fans are junkies who need any kind of fix we can get, so the chances of that happening are as slim as…well, a junkie.

I disagree, Insomniac
The ratings come from homes with the Nielson thingy attached to their TV sets. I think your point is valid, though, if it’s directed at those people whose tastes actually make the ratings. Frankly, I think most of them are brain dead when I hear about what’s highly rated and what’s not.
Texas
I like the Longhorns since they did beat SC last time they played in the Rose Bowl and I have a family tie (aunt) to Auburn so rooting for Bama is not an option.

Wow
This vote is tight. Still haven’t voted as I am not sure who I am rooting for. I like both of these teams.
What's the point?
Why do TCU and Boise State even bother to play football? What else do they need to do to get at shot at the championship? They played tough OOC opponents and beat the snot out of their conference. What else can they possibly do? Perhaps they need to offer brides (wink wink) to the voters…
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
If they're offering brides...
I suspect TCU will be able to find higher quality. The “talent” in Texas has to be much better than in Idaho.

As long as it's not $c
May the best team win. Speaking of the talent level, have you seen the Boise St. roster? Half of those guys are from California.
Bama
But for one single tick of the clock (in the Nebraska-TX) game, Texas would not be here. So, I’m going for Bama. I don’t have any strong feelings about the game so I’ve got to pick someone.
Plus, Crimson Tide was a cool movie.
Bama
SEC, SEC!
Plus, I don’t think Texas deserves to be there this year, either. I usually have a ton of respect for Texas and generally like the team, but in the only two games where they played teams with a pulse (Oklahoma and Nebraska), they looked awful.
That's what many are thinking
However, since lot of people are thinking, writing and talking about the same point you made (at least that’s what I seem to hear on TV), those Texas guys might come in with the same chip on their shoulder as they did before taking on Bush, Leinart. No?
Emotion is a big part of the game
but can’t make up for just not being as good as the team they’re facing. The Vince Young Texas team had beaten Ohio St. in Columbus and in a year the Big 12 was better than it is this year, their closest conference game was a 40-29 win at Texas A&M. That Texas team was damn good and they only went unnoticed because ESPN was too busy slurping SC. This year’s Texas team just isn’t national title good IMO like that ’05 team and Bama is a very good squad.

Roll Tide!!
I’m not a big SEC fan, but I have a new appreciation for the passion exhibited by most SEC fans towards their schools. I went to an Alabama game last year T-town and had a blast!!! Just like a lot of you who had a great experience in Knoxville this year, the Bama faithful won me over.
Got to go with Bama!
Texas
My paternal Grandparents met as students at UT, while other members of my family also attended the school. I root for the Longhorns unless they are playing the Bruins (or UVa).
No disrespect to Alabama; I do believe they have the better team entering this game.

A different Perspective
In regards to tonights BCS title game , I am rooting for Texas, because it would be sweet for the bruins to go into austin next year knowing that they are playing the national champs. How great would that be to knock off the national champs in front of the entire country.
