[UpdateX2] Trouble Brewing With The Ducks? Masoli Accused Of Stealing MacBooks

Some interesting reports coming out of Eugene. Apparently Masoli is among couple of players accused of stealing MacBooks. From OregonLive:

EUGENE - The Eugene Police Department confirmed this morning that its officers are investigating an alleged theft, and the student who filed the report has told The Oregonian that the men he accuses in it are University of Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli and wide receiver Garrett Embry.

Fraternity member Max Wolfard filed a police report alleging that the players took two MacBook Pro computers - one valued at $2,000, the other at $1,500 - and a $900 guitar from the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house at 812 E. 14th Ave. in Eugene early Sunday.

This morning Oregon athletic department spokesman Dave Williford said that the university would have no comment on the matter. Through Williford, Oregon head coach Chip Kelly said he would have no comment "unless there's further substantiation." The Oregonian went to athletic director Mike Bellotti's house in Eugene late Sunday and, through his wife, Colleen, he also had no comment.

While this investigation is unfolding, Oregon kicker was attacked during a brawl on campus. Also from OregonLive:

Oregon kicker Rob Beard was in critical condition Sunday after he was involved in a brawl on campus a day earlier.

Beard, a redshirt freshman, was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend just after midnight Saturday night after he lost consciousness during a fight that involved at least 20 people, according to a Eugene Police Department spokesperson.

After a verbal altercation, the fight became physical, according to the police report, and Beard stepped in to help fellow kicker Mike Bowlin. Beard was kicked in the head by several people and suffered multiple facial fractures.

That really sucks. Hope Beard recovers soon.

Don't think we can draw any kind of conclusion from these stories. I thought Chip Kelley handled the Blount situation really well. However, it will be interesting to see how his reign turns out over next 3-4 years. Remember Dennis Erickson in Miami also won NC with Jimmy Johnson's recruits. Larry Coker did well with Butch Davis' recruits.

Even Neuheisel detractors will point out how he shined immediately with McCartney's recruits in Colorado and rode the athleticism of Marques Tuiasosopo (Don James recruit) to the Rose Bowl with Washington.  Although we have had debates on whether he really left those programs in as bad shape as many clamor considering both of those programs hired very mediocre to awful successors.

Anyway, things are definitely getting a little interesting in Eugene less than just two weeks days before signing day. We will have to see how it unfolds for them both in the short term and in the coming years under Kelly.

GO BRUINS.

UPDATE (N): I think it's important to note that neither Masoli nor Embry is considered suspect in this case at least according to this report. GO BRUINS.

UPDATE II (N): This story is getting very cloudy and ugly (with racial overtones). From Deadspin:

So we have football players who will likely be accused of getting special treatment from administrators and campus police; frat boys who might be getting special treatment from the school newspaper; plus two minority celebrities being accused of a crime in a lily white town. Oh, and right about the same time on Sunday morning, the team's freshman place kicker was beaten within an inch of his life in a unrelated incident. It should be a fun spring semester up there.

Full details here. Not a pretty picture. GO BRUINS.

Wow

I don’t get it…if the allegations turn out to be true, you have to wonder why someone in Masoli’s position would do such a thing. Also, I thought sigining day was February 3rd…

You are right

I meant to write around 2 weeks. It’s even less than that.

I miss Jamir...

Off the field issues aside, what a pass rusher.

I thought Eugene Was Still in the Love/Peace 60's

Surprised by this violence.

Jen has been accepted to Eugene — still waiting for the UC’s.

I guess I’ll have to do a deeper investigation to make sure Eugene is a safe place for her.

(Yes, I know. I am an overprotective Dad.)

Wow. I should have thought of that.

They have a planned parent even in a month or so.

Masoli

According to this he is not listed as a suspect. Sounds like to me that his name was just mentioned in the same story and things got spun out of control, like that Maurice Drew incident at Denny’s when he was coming out of UCLA.

Yep

I included that link in my first update.

According to this...

The second story seems fishy to me. I don’t quite see how there could be an accusation that was as specific as this one was. Then there’s a story that is just as definite saying they’re not suspects. What would we be thinking if this was a story about a couple of just$c* guys? We would certainly add this to the list and talk about how they do indeed own the police.

All that said, I hope that these guys really didn’t do it. And the reporter on the first story? It sounds a lot like the great work of SChilly Smith from ESPN.
