OJ2 Jokes: ‘I may have some USC money left over’

Hey we need some comedy around here and thankfully here is some courtesy of OJ2 and tWWL.  Apparently following exchange took place between the Trojie mercenary and ESPN's in-house "humorist" Kenny Mayne:

Mayne: “… I want you to bring all the cash. Bring the NBA money.”

Mayo: “I’m just a rookie, man. I mean, I’m just a second-year player.”

Mayne: “Aren’t there mandatory minimums? You guys all make $40 million by this point.”

Mayo: “Well, I may have some USC money left over.”

HT to Michael Lev from the OC Register, who provided the following context:

For the record, I asked Mayo’s agent, LaPoe Smith, about this Sunday. “You know that’s a joke,” Smith said, noting that Mayo rode a bike while at USC — as opposed to, you know, a Land Rover or something.

Guess that's funny but the biggest joke out of all this are the morons at NCAA. Yeah, there is lot of buzz in the air about those guys finally getting to the bottom of those so called investigations going on against U$C*. However, I am still extremely skeptical. I don't see those NCAA officials having the guts to levy punishments with actual consequences that would discourage the powers that to not take same actions in the future.

Sure there might dole out some minor sanctions and declare that as something major in the news media, but there is not much they can do put a stop to the kind of scandals we have seen come out Petey's programs in recent years. Like I said they don't have the guts. As a result, right now it's the NCAA continues to get exposed as the biggest joke in all of this.

GO BRUINS.

There are several jokes here

The NCAA is a joke. The self-imposed “sanctions” are a joke. And the joke is on all of the other schools who play by the rules.

Note also that $C announced the self-imposed sanctions on Sunday and too late for the news to be in any Sunday papers. That was classic Public Relations 101. Although relatively few people actually read the actual papers anymore (as opposed to reading the news online or getting it on the tube), still, the difference in readership of Sunday papers versus the tiny Monday papers is enormous.

The joke really is on all of us.

Doesn’t this sound like unfair competition? A nice little violation of B&P section 17200? If the Regents won’t sue, then why not The Board of Regents of the University of California at Los Angeles ex rel Barnes2JJ v. just$c*. I think you may well have standing to do that. And I volunteer to take Cheatie Petie’s deposition, or at least the first eight sessions of it.

Did I just get named

as a party to a suit?

Look for Reggie “Free House” Bust to settle very soon with the other litigant who was just cleared to take his—and Cheatie’s—depositions. Guar-an-teed.

well when you can break the rules of competion with impunity

You can afford to make tasteless jokes. I’m sure they’re getting a big kick out of this over at South Central.

Seriously.

I feel bad for the current students. This may be funny to him, but he’s seriously hurt some very likely clean players.

Go Bruins!

Meh, I have no sympathy for them

The only one I can muster sympathy for is Stafon Johnson. Yes, different sport, but they chose to go there.

Perhaps...

… but then again, this is basketball. For many, it was likely a university of second choice.

Go Bruins!

No sympathy from me

It is inconceivable that the current members of the team did not know what happened with OJ2. They knew that he cheated and that the coach knew about it (and with all due respect to the trOJies who are still in denial and still believe that Timmeh is innocent, you’re delusional.) They knew exactly what kind of a crooked system they were getting into.

It’s exactly like the guy on trial for killing his parents who asks for leniency because he’s an orphan.

Parents of USC recruits--you are accountable to your child

My sympathy level for SC players is limited and dissipating fast. If you are parent of a high school athlete who wants to play intercollegiate athletics, isn’t it irresponsible to send your kid to SC? There are 2 NCAA "investigations" which university lawyers and officials refuse to comment upon that are on-going. If you are parent, you have got to know your child will end up playing for a "school" whose teams could end up on NCAA probation with any number of sanctions. But there is more, if you are parent, why would you send a child to a place, for example, where the school’s athletic compliance office determines Joe McKnight can’t play, but the head football coach tells a L.A. Times reporter McKnight did nothing wrong. College generally ends after 4 years and your daughter or son needs to leave college with ethics and an eagerness to play by the rules. Why would you send your kid to a school where the President who is responsible for what goes on in the athletic department won’t say a word about how it all happened on his watch. If you send your kid to participate in USC athletics—you need to look inside your soul because your child is about to descend into an athletic program where right and wrong are subordinated to the need to win.
