WWL: Cheatey/'Hawks Reach Deal, U$C's Classless Treatment Of Recruits (Some For Us?)
Bumped. GO BRUINS. -N
Just saw on the WWL that Pete Carroll has agreed in principle to be the next head coach of the Seattle Seahawks. All I can say is, Asta La Vista Cheaty!! However, what I found remarkable from reading the article this morning on ESPN was this (HT Blue Me) (emphasis added):
When the news broke Friday that Carroll could be headed to Seattle, USC’s incoming freshman class at the U.S. Army All American Bowl in San Antonio began frantically calling USC’s assistant coaches. For the rest of the day, not a single USC assistant returned a single phone call, according to sources at the game.
By now, calls might have been returned. But witnesses to the scene said that players such as All-American wide receiver Kyle Prater and running back Dillon Baxter could not figure out what was unfolding with Carroll. Baxter, for one, had verbally committed to USC as a high-school freshman and never looked at another school. But now that Carroll is expected to leave USC, other schools already have begun contacting the players scheduled to enroll there in the fall with hopes they will change their mind.
Usually, when something like this happens, the assistants, or an assistant, will call recruits or take the reins until the smoke clears. Not as SUC! No way. All those recruits you have been "competing" for the past 1-2 years can all just screw themselves and don't deserve nothing. Way to go SUC. These high school recruits have finally seen the true colors of all the coaches as SC. It is all about them, it is all about Pete. Just ask Corp. Just ask Sanchez.
Now that Pete is gone, and he is taking with him all of his cheating assistant coaches, the guys they have been wooing don't even get a return phone call? I guarantee you that when those guys calld a few days ago, Norton or Carroll would have stopped breast feeding their children to accept the call. Now, just a busy signal or a voicemail from all u$c coaches. Talk about little class.
It is all imploding at SC, and I can't see how any coach, no matter who it is, can save this recruiting class and the rest that are in it. As a note, Gold has reported that D. Riley decided to take an official visit to Westwood this weekend, at the last minute. I wonder if Cheaty Petey leaving for the Northwest had anything to do with Riley coming to Westwood this weekend. One thing is for sure, D. Riley will be feeling the love this weekend, and hopefully will see that being a Bruin will be special real soon!

It's on now.
And as I turn it on, and before I can get the sound off, the blowhard announcer is saying that a kid who just ran out of the shotgun was told by the coaches at just$c* that they were going to put in the shotgun just for him. Hmm. I thought the Seahawks already had a shotgun.
As I typed this, I had the sound on, and all they talk about is the guys going to just$c – have they not been following things?
The news, and interest is spreading
Even a CNN personality has posted on his Facebook page that 4 of USC’s verbals have decommited.

Do we have any players
either that have verbaled or that we are recruiting in this game? I will be watching the trOJan “commits” too! What a mess over there – classless treatment. They should all defect.
GO BRUINS!!!

Jones is in this game
James and Smith were in the Under Armour Game which was like a week or two ago.
also Ronald Powell
we seem to be his “3rd school” behind SC and Florida but with their coaching situations you never know
Has there ever been a player better than Detlef Schrempf?

Memo ro 4 and 5 star U$C high school recruits
Well, if you had made plans to live in L.A. for the next 4-5 years, get an education at a top ranked university, and play some football with a great coaching staff — guess what — you can! The place is called UCLA, it’s a dozen miles and a million attitudes west of U$C, with a beautiful campus and some of the greatest colleges and graduate schools in the world.
The coaching staff includes the very passionate Rick Neuheisel and offensive genius Norm Chow. And no SCandals.
So, if you want to play football in L.A., UCLA is the place to do it.
Bleeding powderkeg blue and gold for 55 years. Go Bruins!
announcers were just talking about Prater
and used the word “distraught” at least twice to describe his mood. Obviously the kid isn’t feeling much love from SC right now
Has there ever been a player better than Detlef Schrempf?
Moral of the story: U$C should be renamed U$CF
University where Self Comes First.
"In this program your passion bucket must be full to play SC." -- CRN, to Dan Patrick, 1/2008
or just keep it as USC

I don’t know if we snag a ton of these guys I think Riley is a real possibillity. Woods and Uko would be huuuuuuge. One could only dream. There is just a arrogant mentality to guys who committ to sc. I have a feeling sum of these kids are dumb enough to stay.

Dietrih Riley on Official Visit right now
Per Gold: http://insidesocal.com/ucla/2010/01/already-shaking-things-up.html
Nottingham also will be here. I read how Nottingham was going to recruit for us when he verballed just like Brehaut last year. Maybe he’s here to convince them UCLA is the place.
During the Army game, announcers noted that Baxter was contacted by UCLA but I just don’t see it We already have James and Jones who I am high on and don’t see the need to add another TB when we have more pressing needs.
Staff is on Uko, Grimbe and Woods already. Woods is said to be visiting on the 15th which is another one of our big recruiting weekends. Grimble is a question mark though. His HS has sent numerous kids (DeMarco Murray, Ryan Reynolds, etc) to OU. Uko would be nice to get.
Good memory
see your point. Signing day was going to be exciting before the news but it is going to be even crazier now. I’m just not sure how many of the guys we flip and if they do, where the hell are the rides going to come from. I can make some guesses as to who may leave but….I don’t know. I’ll just let it play out.
Whatcha talkin’ bout Willis! UCLA is 4U! Please? :D
Army Announcements
3rd Quarter: Willis and Flowers
4th Quarter: Powell (Just because some mentioned him but I expect FLA)
Halftime
Announcers talked about petey. Said that it shoulf become official tonight. They discussed the allegations and their past season and said “the shine is off that apple” LOL!

it's funny because they were actually the main reason he decided to decommit
he was worried about the sanctions they could be hit with

When the big mouth coach at Tenn
decides to leave and coach at U$uCk, Willis will have a free ticket to go where ever he wants.
Go Bruins.
I was too was confused after that game
we win so they pick up Miller and Willis in return?

I would love to see Woods and Uko Flip
Amongst the guys who haven’t committed who we were going against USC for obviously Josh Shirley (though we aren’t doing well for him), Hayes Pullard, Ricky Hemuli and Dietrich Riley (though there are some other nice safeties out there) would be nice.
Grimble is interesting. I’d want him just so we can make in-roads with his younger brother who is an elite DL in 2011.
I guess rides are not an issue?

10) Accounting for Price leaving for the NFL, and the handful of juniors that were leaving the team, how many scholarhsips are still available for the current recruiting class? – PowderBlueBalls
First of all, that name…solid. Second, I believe the number is at 26. I could be off.

I don't either
we confirmed our numbers at 20 remaining for this class and I’m pretty darn sure we’re on spot. Therefore, if we’re going to clean house, more rides are going to have to open up.
Bob Johnson
why isn’t he giving the ball to Jones more? Am I crazy or is he still stickin’ it to us.

Shirley
Who is leading for Shirley now that Pete is gone? Powell to Florida I’m guessing at least our hat is getting sum publicity.

Damn our hat was not even out there
Powell to Florida they are cleaning up. Just cuz sc will be down we can’t allow Cali studs to go east

Tough to convince the top guys to come to a 7-6 program
We’ve got to start winning 10 games regularly if we want a ton of those guys.

That's the big concern
The elite schools outside Cali aren’t going to ignore USC de-commits.
Powell to Florida
Didn’t see that one coming. Had PC not bolted for Seattle there might have been a wee bit of suspense, but any mystery came to an end yesterday.

The only surprise from this game (from our perspective)
Willis to Tenn. I really thought it’d be UNC with us having an outside shot. Oh well. All the other decisions were not a surprise. We have other targets.
Carroll won't get full control
Anyone hear about John Wooten of Fritz Pollard Alliance demanding that the only title Carroll will have is HC
word is he will have final say on the roster
That’s all he really wants. Who do they draft, who do they trade. He claims that is why he wasn’t successful before.
Wooten's quote
They can hire Pete Carroll if they want. But he cannot be anything more than a head coach. He does not have control of the draft. He does not have control of the trades. He does not have the last word on anything other than the 53 men he puts out on that field each and every week.

Oh, I thought he had control over who the 53 were as well.
Guess we will see for sure with in the next few days.
No full control of football operation might be a deal breaker?
Maybe it’s better for him to be at u$c when the death penalty comes down from NCAA.
Also
“From what I understand, [the Seahawks] have told Pete Carroll that they will give him til Monday to decide what he wants to do,” Wooten said.
Saw that
Seems to contradict the sources which have said the deal is done. Didn’t know that his panel that Wooten runs can have so much authority over what an NFL franchise can do. I guess we can’t get too elated until we see that press conference.

Dickie V tore Carroll a new one this morning on ESPN
On the Georgetown/UConn broadcast, ESPN ran the headline about Carroll agreeing in principle to a $35 million contract. Rather than the expected plaudits about how much success Carroll had at SC and good luck in the NFL, Dick Vitale just lit right into Carroll for taking his “posse” out of town while legal troubles loom over the program. He basically accused Carroll of abandonment, and bemoaned the fact that Carroll will get the fat contract while the athletes and the SC program will get the shaft if the NCAA investigations bear fruit.
I’m not a fan of Dukie V, but I got a newfound respect for the guy after this morning’s rant.
D. Riley
His head coach at St. Francis is Jim Bonds, we all remember ol’ Jimmy QB back in the late 80s early 90s playing for us! He got pulled in the 2nd half of our first game against Oklahoma and replaced by Tommy Maddox, we all know how that turned out. And of course CRN was their quarterback coach at the time. You KNOW both Coach Bonds & CRN are pushing Riley to head to Westwood. Let’s go BRUINS!!
I wonder if some of these kids were frantically calling
to see if their salaries would still be secure after Cheatey leaves.
=p
Realistically, how many of these kids meet our academic standards?
My understanding has always been that we could not take a lot of these kids even if they wanted to come to UCLA.
Am I wrong?
Or, did sc get a bunch of true scholars who could also play ball?
sjh
Yeah, sure, Steve
Lots of true scholars want to go to just$c. Lots of them. And a lot of them leave early to take think tank jobs.
