Center Court: Ben Ball (Stanford) Open Thread
Well here we go. Are we going to be treated to the same old story of following up a good win with another dispiriting and listless effort? Why am I dreading of another UCLA basketball game in which we are going to settle for three point shots and matador defense on the other end of the court. While some are excited about the three point shots Dragovic and Roll made to keep us close during the second half of the Cal game, I am dreading how both of them are going to go cold from beyond the arc this afternoon at Maples.
Stanford is going to be fired up and ready to make a statement at Maples this afternoon. The tip off is scheduled for 3:07 pm PST and it will be broadcast on Prime Ticket. For us to have any shot in this game we will need our guys to play tough hard-nosed, fundamentally sound defense (mixing in zone with man-to-man), show patience on offensive end setting up high percentage shots, and get it done on the FT line. It's hard for me to get hopeful about the game when we have to anticipate Nikola Dragovic leading the way. The Bricklayer of Belgrade has emerged as the most polarizing sports figure in UCLA sports world since Karl Dorrell, as he consistently finds a way to emerge as the MVP (for the other team) while going off from the 3 point line once in a blue moon.
Anyway, I will be here to take my medicine on way or another. You can catch up on all our game notes over here. If you want to follow the game online you can do so via our official site. As always, we will be here in the game threads with our rapid fire takes and commentary. So let's get this party started. Fire away.
GO BRUINS.

I propose that we no longer refer to Nikola Dragovich as anything but ....
1. Bob : ie.. N’s Bricklayer of Belgrade moniker or…
2. Raguvich: Since there is no D in his name and only the bottom half of his O.
Or to simplify things
still call him ND, only it stands for “No Defense”

We get two regional Fox channels
FS West and FS Prime Ticket. Prime Ticket used to be called FS West 2, but they changed the name a couple years ago as homage to Prime Ticket, a channel from years back that covered local LA sports.

What an afternoon to veg in front of tv!!
UCLA Basketball and a NFL playoff game at the same time. Though you gotta hate the school that QBs went to.
FSPT
If the game is on Prime Ticket in the local area (generally Nor Cal and So CAl), then it comes on FCSP in a remote area. If the ucla game is on FSN in the local area, then the game can come on FCSP, FSW or the local FSN channel in your area. To get FCSP (which gives you the majority of the games) – its about 10 bucks on Time Warner and ATT. On ATT, you actually get FSPT so you get the bruin live and interviews afterwards. Feel free to add or correct anything else.
Consistent Karma/Mojo
For all of you who relentlessly negative against Cal, I have one request — do it again.
It worked. We won. Please, keep it up.

Here we go with talking heads and defense
We are the worst offensive shooting team I have ever seen, that is Stanfords D. That coupled with a turnover 1 out of 3 trips down the floor makes everyones D look great.
When JA isn't so focused on running the offense
and can attack the rim, play looser, he’s much better. I guess anything is better though.

by AllHailMightyBruins on Jan 9, 2010 3:32 PM PST reply actions
Bobo, Lane ... our bench guys
They often look hurried at first and little unsettled because they walk on egg shells. They haven’t gotten the same luxury afforded to a basketball superstar like Dragovic.
He is real rushed
But if every time the kids makes a mistake he gets yanked, while drago is out there turning the ball over, missing shots, and being a liability on defense
I know he can't shoot at all right now
But does anyone else think that Moser’s length might really be an asset in the zone D?

More so than Stanford right now
I think this game is going to go down the the last minute/shot.
And lot of the hustling turned up

Not complaining
But we have been getting hosed with the calls this whole trip. Yes I know we are traveling, just wondering if anyone else has noticed it.

He’s a student athlete and a class mate of mine. It is what is, and I’ll take N’s wrath for sticking up for him. He’s got issues on the court, but doing him like that doesn’t seem right to me.

bobo
i love bobo but he’s lost about 80% of the time
If he gets 30 mins a game
without much accountability and gets to chuck up shots, he is going to score. No one here is arguing Bob should get tons of mins. However, the argument that he shouldn’t get a lot of mins because he looks lost on D doesn’t make a lot of sense, considering Dragovic is the ultimate posterchild of someone looking lost, confused and disinterested in playing D.
amazing that they get so many charges`
and we get none
I hate that new rule about the no-charge area
It’s an imaginary line? Is it the same imaginary and moving line that you can’t cross or you’re violating NCAA rules? Put a circle down on the floor like in the NBA so we know where this no-charge zone is.

JA with a fucking charge
William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.
it looked like a block to me, but..
any time you jump to pass, you’re putting yourself at risk for that call

William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.
Body language
All our guys are loafing like Drago
Maybe you should switch it up
and say extra nice things about us. This isnt working. lol

Did someone hijack Nestor's account?
Don’t say such BS on bruinsnation.com
Wow Reeves!

Lee Cleared Out with his forearm
I don’t disagree with that one, but several of the other charge calls were questionable at best.
WOW
I dont think I can watch this anymore. Unbelievable.

Nestor, you're right about Anderson
Not ready to play at this level.
He let his man go right past him into the low post.
nice board

Man
If Reeves Nelson were to leave I wouldn’t really like any of the Bruins the way they’ve played today.
I like Bobo and he played well today
Deserved more time than he got and we played better with him on the floor than some others
sjh
This team would get better if...
…Drago went home.
Oh well
can we go back to the petey thread? Much more fun.

It's over.
Gotta love that mental immaturity by our team. This entire season IMO is devoted to building their maturity and composure to bring it for 40 min every game.
That’s my goal for this season. Nothing more, nothing less.
It's hard to learn....
…when your senior leadership is provided by stiffs.
why is RN smiling and laughing at the camera
sit down. we just lost.

That's a name I'm hearing
I’m trying to find out if it’s because he actually did commit or it’s an assumption because most thought he would commit this weekend.

Oh no
Reeves with the bow.

Is it really suprising?
The guy who got his eye poked out earlier this year is trying to dish some punishment?

Sources: Carroll wants Chow, not Bates, with him
January 9, 2010 5:21 PM
By Brad Biggs
Pete Carroll is trying to lure Norm Chow with him to the Seattle Seahawks as his offensive coordinator, multiple league sources said this afternoon.
I suggest that you
Rethink your thoughts. there are plenty of posts that show you that he is the only option
Formerly ucla13_usc9
Thanks for your suggestion
But my thoughts don’t matter. I am not a huge alumni, and I am not on the board of trustees for the university, I am not the Athletic Director, etc. I didn’t say he should have done more, I I thought he did a good job. I said i haven’t seen any of that “magic.” Stop slobbering over chow and read the post.
Drago is the anti M'bah a Moute
He does more damage than the stat sheet shows.
Does anyone have a picture of both Luc and Drago in the same shot?
Like ying and yang they are complete opposites. I’d like to expand on this thought.
Of course is ND's fault

How could this take so long???
"The entire world that bleeds blue and gold ... they have been dying for this." - Coach Rick Neuheisel
The fact that there coach bitched about it
and the refs run to check it out, should tell you a lot about how this crew “reffed” this game
Yeah, that doesn't seem right
If it’s not caught right away, there should be a statute of limitations, so to speak.
Did anyone else see RN get jacked by that guy on a rebound
I think it was somewhere in the 7-10 min range?
I’m thinking it was retaliation

Malcolm, Drago, Roll, Nelson, Anderson all crap games
… hard to win with that.
But, why did Malcolm have such a bad weekend offensively. Didn’t expect that, especially tonight where he was really bad w/turnovers and bad shooting.
He's using so much energy on d and ball handling....
….his shooting is suffering.
