Around SBN: Events Cause Mariners To Lose To Rangers

Previously, BlueWave wondered in the FanPost re: the new Adidas football uniforms, if Adidas might be tweaking basketball jerseys, going with the tight-fitting jersey look that Nike rolled out a few seasons ago.

It turns out they might. Take a look at last year's uniform here.

Now take a look at the gallery from the men's basketball team's media day here. If you look closely, the new uniforms appear to fit more snug on top and the numbers seem to have gotten larger than previous seasons.

Hopefully Adidas is not going to screw around with what is one of the most classic uniforms in college basketball.

UPDATE (B) - Apparently, according to the fine folks at the very good UniWatch blog, UCLA is rolling out new uniforms this season, with some minor changes, but also it looks like it'll include the new Adidas Revolution 30 type technology (hence, the more tight fitting look).

If we're going to redesign our uniforms, let's make them look better

If we’re going to redesign the uniforms, let’s make them look better Dare I say it…I think our uniforms need an overhaul. They may be classic, but they don’t look cool, don’t sell well in stores (it doesn’t help that adidas and the UCLA merchandising staff don’t have a clue about national retail placement), and usually don’t fit well on our players. I don’t advocate the Lizard’s "UCLA in black" kit, but an upgrade to something akin to the women’s uniform would give our guys a fresh new look plus better alignment with our mythical official colors.

I hope this line of thinking won’t expose me to a firing squad of traditionalists, but if it does, I hope RN and, um, ND are the ones doing the shooting.

Always good to offer ideas bryan

I tend to fall in B’s line of thinking. I am huge fan of classic look (see Yanks/Red Sox/Dodgers baseball uniforms). I don’t mind making subtle changes for extremely special situations but our basketball tradition is so cherished I’d be against a general uniform change.

I actually really dig the really classic jerseys Howland had the team wear about 3 years ago which said “Bruins” on the front.

The black uniforms were beyond horrible. Don’t forget Jim Harrick busted out yellow jerseys for a Louisville game I think in 1990. They were atrocious too.

I don't mind a more modern fit

as long as the lettering and everything else remains the same.

But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

Links

Here’s a link to the women’s bb uniforms.

…and here’s a concept for our football uniforms that I just discovered. Setting aside the little Nike checkmark on the chest, what do you guys think of it?

just ditch the navy outline

on the stripe on those would look pretty sweet. I would expand the stripe back to under the shoulder.

My two cents

I look at the guy at the far right in the group photo, and see the jersey ‘blousing’ at the waist where it gets tucked into the shorts. In my eyes, the jersey’s don’t look different at all.

As for changes to uniforms, I like the classic looks unless you’re going to do a one game special occasion. I like the idea of a Clemson style football helmet with a bear paw on the sides for example. Probably never going to see it, and that’s cool. The Isolated C to celebrate our 100 NCAA championships was very cool. And they did it for a limited time. Oh, and yeah. we need to bring back the Clarendon numbers on our football jerseys.

Little changes like this go unnoticed in my book.

It might be part of a larger concept

Adidas just redid all of the NBA jerseys with their Revolution 30 concept, and KU just announced their jerseys would be updated for the new season with the same concept.
I can’t really tell from the media day photos if our jerseys have the same mesh/breathable hole patterns like the new jerseys, but other than that, the larger numbers don’t really bother me.

Definitely different

the blue and gold trim on the shoulder wrapped all the way around last year, but this year it appears to stop at the armpit.

by Sideout11 on Oct 14, 2010 9:44 AM PDT reply actions

Also

what’s with all the number changes every year. RN is now 22, AS is 0, etc. It gets confusing…just pick a number and stick with it.

by Sideout11 on Oct 14, 2010 9:48 AM PDT up reply actions

They change numbers

when the number they originally want is already taken. Beginning of last season AS couldn’t pick 0 because Gordon had it. RN couldn’t pick 22 because Morgan had it. It’s not completely random, same thing last year when ML swapped to 3 after Shipp graduated and it was freed up.

Hmmmm....

You had me worried until I looked at the pics. I thought that we might be going to the super tight Nike-type jerseys (See: Ohio State, Texas, Oregon). These might be a tad tighter and the numbers are wider than the ones from last season. I can live with that.

Put me in the camps that says, “Don’t mess with tradition.”…Of course, I’m a geezer, so what can you expect? :)

Here at P-Dine, we seem to change uni’s every year, especially now that we are a Nike school for Bball.

I may work with the Waves, but I'm still a Bruin!

the numbers also look

like 2 diff. colors rather than the solid blue.

To me, the classic look is best, and it doesn't include pants that look like they are about 12 sizes too large

I get the ethnic aspect of the pants that are too big, but hasn’t it been demonstrated that the more streamlined, the better? How many track guys run in baggy pants?

Anyway, I think the look that Alcindor and Wicks and Rowe and Vallely and Walton and Lee and Shackleford et al wore should make a comeback. I know that will never happen because the notion of what is cool has changed. And that, ladies and gentlemen, proves I’m a hard core geezer.

Hard to tell,

but I think the serifs on the letters are smaller this year.

Roses are red, violets are blue...f*** $C.

The new numbers make them look like cheap knock-offs

They’ve REALLY changed the numbers on the front. Looks like the font is blockier (less serif, goodbye beautiful peak on #5) and WAY larger on the chest.

From the team photo, it looks like our boys are wearing homemade jerseys. The replica jerseys in Ackerman occasionally had a larger-numbered font and looked like errors. We had the best jerseys in the country, this just looks funny.

Definitely not an upgrade. They look generic.
