UCLA Marching Band: Postgame Performance

Saturday afternoon after the UCLA-WSU game ends, stick around for a performance by the Solid Gold Sound of the UCLA Bruin Marching Band. As usual, the UCLA Band will play various fight songs and pop tunes on the field once the game has ended. However, for this postgame performance, the band will also DEBUT a new field show, marching to and playing the music of the alternative rock band Muse! The band has been working hard on this show and can't wait to perform it in front of an audience. So, support the Solid Gold Sound and stay after the game for the performance!

Sounds great.

I’ll be sure to stay. Glad to hear the band is mixing it up a bit and adding some fresh material. Just saw a bit of the Oregon band on College Day and really liked their Lady Gaga song. I like it when the band plays the traditional school songs but adds fresh contemporary music (instead of just keeping the same popular music decades in and decades out). We have a great band and it’s nice that it will get to stretch a bit.

Go Bruins!

Great performance

As a former member of the band I was happy to see the show even if it was from the back for now. Sounded great the whole game too.

It was great

I have been critical of the band in the past with some of their choices, but the post game things was awesome. I thought it was really cool. Too bad most folks were leaving early.

I also thought they sounded awesome pregame. They were very loud and seemed bigger than in past years.

Really, really well done today guys! You should be proud.

Loved it

The sound was great, the choreography was solid and the new tunes rocked.

They started with the Four Leaf Clover piece which they have done since the Truman administration. The Clover performance begins with the part of the band putting their horns on the ground and dashing behind the rest of the band where they ran and danced to the music(kind of an improvised performance). At first, the running and dancing was high spirited but as the band was repeating part of I’m Looking Over etc. the dancers began to feel the effects of the humidity and the hoofing slowed down. I’m not knocking the band, we began laughing as the dancing kids emulated our 2nd and 3rd quarter defense. And since we we’re seated comfortably and not moving at all, we then began to chortle at ourselves for our hypocritical giggling at the hard working dancing band members.

The band ended the performance with the “Sons of Westwood” which they performed with their backs to what remained of the crowd. They faced the northwest corner of the Rose Bowl where J.J. Stokes was on the post-game show. I assumed they played it for J.J. and, if so, classy.

Are there video/pictures?

It would be cool if members of the band did followup blogging to let us know what took place (if they have pic/video from friends/family member to share).
