A Case for Fox Sports

Better production value, check. Clearer HD signal, check. National exposure, check. Recruits across the nation getting a look at our program and what it has to offer, check. More money for our school and our conference, check. Better analysis and feel of commentators actually knowing about the team that they are covering, che...NO!!! I definitely agree that its better for our games to be aired on ESPN and the ABC family (as they have been for the past few weeks) for all of the above reasons, but I gotta say, I missed Fox Sports and am glad to be watching the Wazzu game on Fox Sports today. It's been painful watching our games on ESPN, where the pre-game show made no mention of the actual game that they would be airing in just a couple of minutes. No inside stories, no analysis from the likes of J-Dub, JJ Stokes, or anyone else who has actually seen more than 3 UCLA games in the last 5 years.

While the production value of their pregame show is a bit public access-like, it was refreshing to see the 30 minute lead-in to the game. Hearing the personal story of Derrick Coleman being hearing impaired since birth (sure we knew all of this, but once again, its good to actually hear personal stories about players from the upcoming game, and not just being inundated with SEC talk!) and visiting local children dealing with the same issue. Seeing clips of CRN dissecting game film (clips from his 30 minute show)was fulfilling. And knowing that there will be a 30 minute post game show breaking down what we just saw (and not just scores and clips from around the country, err, the SEC), and hopefully celebrating a victory makes me downright giddy!

Once again, its great for us (and important to the survival and growth of our program)to have the national exposure, but I gotta say, it's great to be home, no matter how crappy that home might be!
