BN Gameday: Washington State Second Half Thread

Akeem Ayers and the Bruin defense are not playing inspired.

Just as we expected Bruins are letting themselves down again. Have to say that was not really good football to watch at the Rose Bowl. Rick Neuheisel’s UCLA Bruins are up on the Washington State Cougars by a score of 20-. Richard Brehaut came out leading the offense and looked good throwing the ball early. However, due to some head scratching play calls the Bruin offense only scored 20 points at half time settling for FGs. Meanwhile, the UCLA defense seemed to take couple of drives off playing soft, letting the Cougars carve them up. An ugly performance by UCLA defense.

Bruins have also been sloppy and making lot of costly mistakes. As usual w have had few silly penalties putting us in dicey situation. Got to clean all that up. Otherwise, they have already given the Cougars a lot of hope and a reason to fight in second half. Let’s hope the Bruins come out poised, focused and get their first Pac-10 win of 2010.

GO BRUINS.

I don't understand why prevent defense exists

It never works unless it’s the last play of the game.

You can drop into coverage on a play, but not on multiple plays in a row. Change it up. Bring a corner or LB blitz. Pressure the QB.

Yes

It’s fine on 3rd and 15+. But it should really never be used any other time.

WSU starts with the ball.

Bullough better light a fire right out of the box or else the Bruins may be even more demoralized.

This is going to be a dogfight and the coaches better continue to impart that to the team.

by 1970 on Oct 2, 2010 2:24 PM PDT reply actions

Ok, we are about to step into the perfect storm!!

Right now Texas is down by 2 Td’s and should be down by more. Any positive mojo that we created after last week’s game will be for naught unless the Bruins come out and smoke Wash. St. Right now Wash. St is an interception out in the flat returned for a TD away from making this into a game. As it is right now if Wash. St. comes out and scores on it’s opening drive we’re in serious s—t. Right now we don’t have a run defense.

by Raybru on Oct 2, 2010 2:24 PM PDT reply actions

Anything is certainly possible..

but look at previous weeks, coaches have made the necessary adjustments and we’ve come out much stronger in the 2nd half. I’d imagine their front 7 is pretty tired. I think things will open up even more in the running game.

At this point it maybe our front 4 on defense that might be gassed

I don’t know if Brehaut can run the pistol as well (it might have something to do with his reads) as Prince and that maybe why we are not seeing us running it as much.

TERRIBLE CALL

Didn’t know the facemask included the fucking shoulder pads.

Mother fucking Pac-10 referees. Should be taken out to a field and all shot. Fucking retards.

by Bellerophon on Oct 2, 2010 3:11 PM PDT reply actions

What?

Better not tackle to hard may be a penalty.

by SF Bruin on Oct 2, 2010 3:11 PM PDT reply actions

There have been some terrible PI calls

on non catchable’s but we have gotten some cheap f@cking personal foul calls.

by bruinbrah on Oct 2, 2010 3:11 PM PDT reply actions

Yeah, real cheap

Especially when it’s not actually a fucking penalty.

Do us a favor: think before commenting.

Thanks.

You

just gave me a warning and we agree . Should have read “and” instead of “but”. Either way you misunderstood what I wrote. Kind of knee jerk reaction on your part.
thanks.

I wish I'd get upset over SPTRs

However, we should have never gotten in position to get upset over SPTRs.

by Nestor on Oct 2, 2010 3:11 PM PDT reply actions

Agree

but if the Commish wants the Pac 12 to be an elite league, he needs to fire the SPTR’s

by Vanman7475 on Oct 2, 2010 3:12 PM PDT reply actions

We sucked during UT game while I was here

And dominated when I wasn’t. Tried to pull the same trick for this game…not working. So I’m here to reverse our karma. Go Bruins!

Bullough

by Bellerophon on Oct 2, 2010 3:14 PM PDT reply actions

No TD there.

Why don’t they review that?!?!?!?!?!?!

by orlandobruin on Oct 2, 2010 3:15 PM PDT reply actions

Because the Pac-10 refs are fucking retards

They fuck us at every opportunity and give every fucking call to WSU.

Obviously, we shouldn’t be in a position to be screwed by these retards, but this is infuriating.

by Bellerophon on Oct 2, 2010 3:16 PM PDT up reply actions

Bellerophon

all i said was that it was “freakin Wazzu” and we should be beating them. texas fans saying that about us last week is not a fair comparison. wazzu has been one of the worst fbs teams the past couple years. that has not been the case for UCLA. banning me for that comment was unnecessary and over the top. you’ll probably ban me again for saying this, but as a ucla alum, i feel disrespected and like you were powertripping

by 8sp0rts8 on Oct 2, 2010 3:24 PM PDT reply actions

Umm, clearly you're not getting it

Are you posting? Then you weren’t banned.

You were warned for an arrogant comment. I’m tired of seeing people talk about WSU like they don’t deserve to be on the field with us. That’s BS and that’s arrogant.

I don’t care if you’re an alum or not. If you don’t like it, leave. You will not be missed.

by Bellerophon on Oct 2, 2010 3:25 PM PDT up reply actions

And yes, it was a fair comparison

Texas was a top 10 team. Texas was damn close to being the national champs last year. Texas was the national champs in 2005.

When was the last time we were relevant in college football?

That’s what I thought, so yes, Texas fans being arrogant toward us is no different than you being arrogant and dismissing WSU.

LSU had the ball inside the 5, down 14-10 with 37 seconds left. Ran it on 2nd down and didn’t convert. Were slow to get up and switched personnel and time was about to run out so the center just hiked the ball. The QB never saw it and recovered the fumble as time expired. Tennessee is celebrating when it turns out there was a flag – Tennessee had 13+ guys on the field (not just 12, at least 13!) for the play so LSU got a do-over with no time in the game and punched it in to win 16-14.

My two favorite teams are UCLA and whoever is playing $C.

Westgate

Did it himself

But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

very true

take his potential liability as a pass defender and turn it into one of his strengths

Agreed

Could even substitute “Westgate” with “someone, anyone”

Victory formation.

A win is a win is a win. None of us are elated. It was ugly. But we won, we are Bruins, and we are 3-2.

Let’s not forget that we had a backup QB playing today. And the entire team showed up on the 4th Q.

Looking forward to looking better against CAL.

by orlandobruin on Oct 2, 2010 3:56 PM PDT reply actions

Definitely a "whew" game

But you know what letter “whew” starts with? That’s right, W. Go Bruins!

by ucla139 on Oct 2, 2010 3:56 PM PDT reply actions

Never.

Ohio State grinded out a narrow win today against a bad Illinois team. So did MIchigan against vaunted Indiana. You can look at a ton of other games where teams “should have” won 55-10, but didn’t.

The good news is that the offense looked good today, especially the running game. Bullough called waaaay to conservative a game on D.

Props to Brehaut

He didn’t play a great game, but he made some effective plays…and with no interceptions.

by bryanucla on Oct 2, 2010 3:56 PM PDT reply actions

i know this was ugly...

but for tonight i’m going to enjoy the fact that we had 437 RUSHING YARDS

Nestor,

Thank you!

Just what we needed.

I'll Take The Win

But I’m far, far from being happy.

I give a lot of props to Wazzu for playing inspired today. The talent edge was overwhelming for us yet they put the fear of God into our team today and they woke up in time to do something about it.

This is not how you win conference titles – or more.

Los Angeles Rams and the UCLA Bruins!!!!!

I don't know what to think about this team

anymore. I’ll just take the W at this point and look forward to finding out more about them up at Cal next week.

I really have no idea what ucla's defensive philosophy is

or how the gameplan varies from week to week – but this defensive effort will not get it done the rest of the way. Kudos to O, because without the output on the ground, this would have been a different result

by Nakatomi Plaza on Oct 2, 2010 4:03 PM PDT reply actions

LOL Texas

Their punt returners are awful.

by Maverick_Bruin on Oct 2, 2010 4:05 PM PDT reply actions

Gut check win

is good even if ugly. Also, I can’t believe anyone is unhappy with Coleman. He is thunder to Franklin’s lightning. Also, a great person (got to see him up close on the sideline last week, and watch his interaction with players and coaches). We have a running game and two QBs who can manage a game. Just get the D back to where they need to be. Plus, WSU may be down but they never give up and just shows Pac 10 is competitive this year. Bear down for CAL!

by Vanman7475 on Oct 2, 2010 4:08 PM PDT reply actions

Whoa that announcer just said

WSU is the “DOORMAT” of the PAC 10…. and we almost got beat by them today!

by LoyalAlum94 on Oct 2, 2010 4:13 PM PDT reply actions

At least you guys got to watch the game....

Dish Network has a contract dispute right now with Fox Sports so no Bruins, Lakers, etc until this gets settled. I’m not happy.

Go Bruins!!!

I may work with the Waves, but I'm still a Bruin!
