Quick Update on UCLA Women's Volleyball

Bumped. GO BRUINS. -N

Wanted to quickly update everyone on the womens volleyball program.  The team was full of question marks and low expectations this year with 2 of our star players transferring during the off season, and a new head coach at the reigns.  UCLA had low expectations, predicted to finish 7th in the Pac-10 this season.  UCLA breezed through their non-conference schedule, but once Pac-10 play started, things were rough. UCLA opened up conference play 1-3 and it looked like things were only going to get worse with #1 Stanford coming to town.

UCLA took down #1 and undefeated Stanford in a 5 set thriller in front of a huge home crowd, and that seems to have really ignited the team.  UCLA then went on the road and defeated #25 Arizona in 5 before falling to unranked ASU in 4, though our starting setter Lauren Van Orden was out with a concussion.  With her back, UCLA returned home to defeat OSU in 4, and then sweep #16 Oregon in 3 sets.  Now, UCLA started the second half of the pac-10 season tonight with #7 Washington who had swept us earlier in the year.  UCLA just pulled off a thrilling 5 set victory over a very VERY talented team.

UCLA has won 5 of their last 6 games, is #11 in the nation, and now sits at 6-4 in the pac-10, good enough for 5th place and 1 game out of 3rd.  UCLA is clearly catching fire at the right time, and it will be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out.  GO BRUINS!!
