By the time kickoff rolls around, the stadium will be half-empty, and the Cal fans who missed the sales pitch will be pondering, "Hey, why does this look like a UCLA home game?"

I would hope that you guys have a larger average attendance
Since capacity is what, 91k at the Rose Bowl compared to 70k at Memorial?
And this year, UCLA is averaging just under 58k for its home games, compared to 56.7 for Cal. We’re almost even!

yeah capacity wise there is no question
and it drives me nuts more fans dont show up. based on last yr we had about 72% attendance though and Cal had ~80% so yeah there is a proportion difference, but it’s misleading saying we don’t have fans at the games.

I know
It’s just an easy joke when you see a half-empty Rose Bowl. Didn’t mean to offend.

no worries
i actually thought the majority of the post was pretty funny, just took slight offense to that one comment (which is probably cause i hate our attendance to a certain extent). it kind of reminded me of the sf giants SBN blog which is hilariously sarcastic.

The problem is
with the average attendance figures you give, Memorial Stadium looks fairly full, and with a few more people the Rose Bowl still looks relatively empty. No reason our SoCal fans shouldn’t/can’t change that, though.
Roses are red, violets are blue...f*** $C.
Not to mention
Memorial is on campus…how do you NOT fill up your stadium!
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
That makes no sense
If you arent selling out, what does max capacity have to do with average attendance? We still are averaging more people (better fanbase) than you. If you mean purely the looks, then okay, but the capacity has nothing to do with avg attendance unless UCLA is averaging over the 70k MEmorial max.

Having an irrelevant program for over 30 years pre-Tedford
Kinda skews our alumni fanbase buildup (we had like 60 wins over 16 seasons or some awful metric, with only Snyder injecting true life into our program).
I thought UCLA football had some great teams back in the day, yet for some reason they’re only on par with us. I always thought the Rose Bowl should at least average 65-70k, but it probably only gets that full when big-name opponents come to town.

Attendance stats
I think it would be interesting to see the attendance stats for our program from the 90s as well.
