UCLA Chemsitry Rocks!!
Only wished I paid attention to it more when I was there.
Biochem with Professor Bates was BRUTAL!
But she was an amazing Professor. She actually spoke of Dr. Heck’s research. It seemed beyond me at the time, but after that class you could really begin to understand the ramifications of his research. Awesome News!! Go Bruins!!!
If Nestor had stuck with pre-med
he’d have a Nobel by now too.
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
Great day for the Bruins
And especially for those who earn their bones on the South Campus. Your legacy is the best. Now if us North Campus dweebs could get our acts together.
There are the two in economics:
Elinor Ostrom, who won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences last year, William Sharpe (economics, 1990)
Anyone know why UCLA claims only 11, not 12?
UCLA says 11 when Wikipedia lists 12 alums and faculty winning the Nobel.
Bertrand Russell (1872–1970), mathematician, philosopher and Nobel Laureate (Literature, 1950), was not listed by the school. He moved to Los Angeles to lecture at UCLA.
The UCLA alumni winners are Elinor Ostrom, who won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences last year, William Sharpe (economics, 1990), Bruce Merrifield (chemistry, 1984), Glenn Seaborg (chemistry, 1951) and Ralph Bunche (peace, 1950). The five UCLA faculty winners are Louis Ignarro (physiology or medicine, 1998), Paul Boyer (chemistry, 1997), Donald Cram (chemistry, 1987), Julian Schwinger (physics, 1965) and Willard Libby (1960).
