Since there's no UCLA game today, I figured this would be something to watch for Bruin fans.
The Big Ten Network has been doing a weekly countdown of the greats in Big Ten history. They're up to #12 this week, and it's none other than Purdue alum John Wooden. Today's showing is at 1pm PST (repeats at 8pm tonight, at 8am and 4:30pm on Sunday, and 3:30pm and 7pm on Tuesday) on the Big Ten Network.
Big Ten Icons: #12 John Wooden
As great a coach as he was, it's easy to overlook his accomplishments as an athlete (which I presume is the primary reason he made the list of Big Ten Icons). In his day, Wooden was a superstar on the court -- the first ever three-time All-American and a consensus Player of the Year. He's still revered in Indiana and has a street named after him on the Purdue campus. Indeed, his exploits at Purdue alone were groundbreaking, and became an icon and legend at UCLA.
