Kiffin Says ND Rivalry More Important Than UCLA

When asked how the UCLA and Notre Dame rivalries compare for *$c, Mensa Kiffin had this to say:

I just think the Notre Dame (rivalry) is more historic and is more the fans' and the older players' (rivalry), as far as the players that have played here before.

Never mind the whole Iraqi Information Minister style of "press conference", with one guy lobbing easy, well connected softballs to the coach. You would imagine that Kiffin would want to try to avoid any kind of bulletin board material the week of his apparent second most important game.

Well, I guess since this game doesn't mean so much to Lane's and the alum's sense of history, then they won't mind us curb stomping them by 40.

I'm told by USC people

that no one under 45 cares about the ND game as much as the UCLA game.

Hmmm.

If he couldn’t get his team fired up enough to beat the team he sees as their main rival…

He’s right about their ND rivalry being more historic, though, as they started playing each other in 1926, and we first took on $c in 1929. They will have played ND three more times than us after this weekend (we played $c twice a year in ’43 through ’45 due to WW2 travel restrictions).

ND is an awesome game, both UCLA v.s. U$C and $C v.s ND have a great history. It would be even better if UCLA and ND played every year. But given the proximity of the two schools and the relationships that go with working, and school plus growing up…

U$C v.s. UCLA = Hatred and total dislike, Friends and Family, Los Angeles! Bet’s ( EX: My dad had to jump in the freezing ocean after UCLA lost in 1990, But his best friend Ian was plenty bitter for the next eight years)

U$C v.s Notre Dame = Hypocrites, Bandwagon thugs on Viagra who also take ballroom dancing with or without senora Ross v.s Touch Down Jesus, The four Horsemen, Catholics and NBC.

Doughnuts

A teacher at my school and I had bets on the UCLA/$c games all though the 1990’s. Loser had to buy doughnuts for the other teacher’s entire class in the morning. Boy, we sure enjoyed eating all those doughnuts. He transferred to another school in 1999. My students still remember that. GO BRUINS!

In my 13 years as a Bruin

I find that the Trogans will pick whoever they are doing better against to be their biggest rival. In other words, if they have a five year win streak against ND and no win streak against us, they would say ND is their bigger rival. If you flipped scenarios, they would reverse their position.

But, i don’t completely disagree with Tame Kitten’s comments. They have an overall losing record to Notre Dame (33-43) while an overall winning record against us (42-28). Put in their shoes, who would we rather beat?

Back to my original point, I think it is this mentality that has made them so insufferable. during the 90s they were doing an awful lot of losing to both schools. With the advent of the Cheat Carroll era, they had finally achieved domination in both rivalries; therefore they and their band wagon fans became insufferably smug.
