Womens Basketball Defeats East Carolina 81-67 To Win The Rainbow Wahine Shootout

Unfortunately there is no box score of the game or gametracker, so this will be brief. UCLA took on 4-5 East Carolina in the second game of the Rainbow Wahine Shootout in Hawaii Monday night. The game was close early with the score tied 14-14, before the Bruins blew the game open with a 43-26 halftime lead. In the second half, the Bruin lead got as large as 62-38 with 12 minutes remaining, before a furious comeback by the Pirates keyed by hot 3-point shooting cut the Bruin lead all the way down 6 points, before the Bruins locked down on defense and hit their freethrows for a 81-67 victory.

The 81 points is a season high for the Bruins in regulation, and 5 players scored in double digits, led by 16 from Darxia Morris, 15 from Atonye Nyingifa, and double doubles from Jasmine Dixon (14 points 10 rebounds) and Markel Walker (10 points 10 rebounds). Without being able to see the gametracker play by play or the box score, it seemed like UCLA dominated for the most part, before a rally in the last 10 minutes made the game interesting. Still, a win is a win and the Bruins improve to 10-0. The Bruins now break for the holidays before returning to Pauley next Tuesday, to close the non-conference season against LSU.
