Renardo Sidney

There is a video on Yahoo Sports showing Sidney and one of his teammates getting in a fight in the stands before the game.  I'm not at all surprised that Coach Howland passed on him, but how a guy with his qualifications got past Inheritance Hall is a mystery to me.  He would have fit in perfectly over there.  I assume one of the smart people will find the video and make a link to it.  Thanks in advance.

Bleacher Report has the video

You can see it here. (Smarter people will actually embed the video…)

Why Sidney and Bailey are throwing fists is an interesting question. A better question though is why CBH ever considered giving this kid a scholarship at all. Desperation? Thankfully, our AD vetoed it.

Howland

The guy was pretty dominant in high school. The problem all along was the baggage he came with. Howland decided against allowing Sidney to come. I doubt it even got to the level of the AD.

I saw him play at Fairfax

He was totally dominant, and this was even while he was supposedly out of shape and his stock was dropping. He was something like 9-10 from the field (including a couple 3’s) and had double digit rebounds and 5+ blocks and assists.

Of the players that have come out of Fairfax in recent years, he was easily the best. If Sidney had come to UCLA fit and serious about playing, we would have been seen as preseason contenders for the National Title. Even with the guards not living up to the hype, he could’ve helped the team reach the tournament last year.

With Sidney’s attitude and more importantly his amateur issues, turning him away was definitely the right decision, but I don’t see anything wrong with thinking (carefully) about a player that talented.

Gives new meaning to the phrase One and Done

Rush the Court said Sidney was playing as well as anyone in the country—in the two games he played after sitting out a year thanks to the NCAA. Now he’s suspended indefinitely. If MSU is smart, he won’t play again, and Sidney’s likely to go into the draft in the spring. For all that hoo-hah, MSU gets two games out of the guy.

Is he smart enough to have done this on purpose?

Showcase his talents for a game or two and then drop out to wait for the draft? That way he doesn’t have to go to school or do any work.

Well he already sat out a year

During that time he should have been enrolled and attending classes.

He needed this year to have something to showcase for the NBA, and so far it’s a couple of suspensions and a fight in the stands, along with being out of shape. He should just go to Europe and get benched.

I'd say no

but like most here, when I saw that clip above the first thing I thought was “Good move, CBH.” He would’ve been an embarrassment to those four letters.

I don't think he was ever a serious recruit.

As I remember it, he was all but set to go to South Central then when it became obvious that even they were going to turn their noses up at him, he re-opened his options.

Is any team in the NBA really going to take him?

I mean, sure, a team will perhaps spend a non-binding second round pick..but even with his talents, that’s just flat out screaming to leave him alone…Hope he has some plans made for Europe in case…

There are a lot of jerks in the NBA

I’m not sure character counts as much as scoring, rebounds and assists.

And, in some ways, I think they are setting the bad example for these young kids working their way up to the NBA who want to be like them.

There has never been a skilled player who the NBA passed on for character issues. Ever.

The pistons were taking a long look at a feisty point guard named Chuckie Manson until he became unavailable. But Hannibal Lecter is playing under an assumed name on a team which does not want to be identified.

Character is not a factor in NBA decisions.

Wasn’t this kid on UCLA prospect list and almost came here.I hate to see stuff like this, kid looks to be really good but he will now have this label on him until he gets it together.

It was the parents didn't want to

give UCLA financial reports, wasn’t it?

They threw a big party for the kid at Fairfax at end of his HS career or to announce his pick of college.

granted some kids have attitude issues prior to arrival

who’s to say that CBH wouldn’t have disciplined him?
