I thought it Would be interesting to see the kind of company that Coach Neuheisel is keeping with the results of his 1st 3 years at UCLA. The results are not surprising, but they do put into perspective just how awful our team has been under his direction. There are 65 teams in the 6 AQ conferences. Every year, approximately 11 or 12 teams --18% in a 3 year period--achieve records of 4-8 or worse. In other words, the bottom quintile is represented by this mark, or worse.
There is only one team that has gone 4-8 or worse in all 3 seasons from 2008-10, Washington State. Eight others have gone 4-8 or worse at least twice:
Virginia
Purdue
Indiana
Duke
UCLA
Baylor
Syracuse
Vanderbilt
This is a who's who of mediocre football programs. Indiana, Vandy, Duke and Baylor have consistently been the dregs of their conferences, rarely sniffing bowl games. WSU has been awful, but if they played UCLA today on a neutral field, they might be favored against us. Purdue, Virginia, Syracuse and now UCLA, for various reasons, have fallen into the same category as those moribund programs.
Bill Parcells used to say, you are what your record is. Well, with Neuheisel at the helm, we're Indiana and looking up to the Iowa States and Wake Forests of the college football landscape.
Who says he needs another year?
