Men's Tennis
With the rain gone, #4 UCLA was finally able to begin their season and they did so with a pair of wins. First, it was a 4-1 win over Hawaii at home and next was a 4-0 sweep over #17 Pepperdine, which advanced the Bruins to the ITA National Team Indoors. That will be played February 11-14 in Charlottesville, VA, but this week it is a visit from San Diego.
Women's Gymnastics
The Bruins' loss to #5 Stanford dropped them from tops in the country to #7, but they bounced back with a vengeance against Arizona St. Anna Li won yet another all-around for the Bruins and the team finished just 0.05 off of their season-high to beat the Sun Devils by more than three points. In three of the four events, UCLA scored season-highs and nine difference routines earned scored of 9.9 or better. The Bruins (5-1) will now head to Arizona for a Friday meet versus the #20 Wildcats.
Men's Volleyball
The #6 Bruins, fresh off of an unexpected sweep of #2 Cal St. Northridge, played #4 BYU in a pair of home games and in the first, took care of the Cougars in as many sets as it took for them to dismiss the Matadors a week prior. A 40-38, 30-21, 30-24 sweep gave the Bruins a third consecutive win, but they fell the following day in a tough, five-set match. BYU came back from two seats to one down and defeated the Bruins 15-11 in the final set to split the weekend series. The Bruins will now play five consecutive matches away from Pauley Pavilion, beginning with #9 Hawaii on both Thursday and Friday.
Women's Tennis
Like the men, the women had their first week of play wiped out due to rain, but they were in fine form last week when they finally got on the court. The #12 Bruins disposed of Pepperdine 5-0 to begin the week, then they defeated Tulsa, 4-1, to advance to the ITA National Team Indoors in two weeks. This week, it is visits from UC Irvine and Rice.
Women's Basketball
The winning ways continue for Coach Nikki Caldwell's squad as they won their third and fourth consecutive games last week. UCLA won their first game by running past Oregon, 104-80, behind Jasmine Dixon's third-straight 20 point game, while Markel Walker fell two assists short of a triple double with 17 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists. There was far more defense in the Bruins' second win of the week, but the result was still the same in a UCLA win. This time, the Bruins defeated Oregon St., 70-44, as Walker picked up her second double double of the weekend. At 14-6 overall, with a 7-2 Pac-10 record halfway through the conference season, UCLA will go to the Bay Area schools this weekend.
Women's Swimming and Diving
Going up against the #4 and #5 teams in the country did not go well for the Bruins. First, they lost to fourth-ranked Stanford, 169-126. Things got four points better versus the #5 Bears, 167-128 as the Bruins dropped to 5-3 overall and 2-3 in the Pac-10.
Men's Track and Field
UCLA opened their 2010 indoor season at the UW Invitational in Seattle and Cory Primm led the team with a lifetime best in the 800m, an NCAA provisional qualifying time that was the best of any collegiate runner in the field. The majority of the team.will begin their seasons in Flagstaff, Arizona this weekend.
Women's Track and Field
It was Shannon Murakami who got things done for the women at the UW Invitational, running a NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 3000m. The women will go the New York for the New Balance Invitational this week.
Women's Water Polo
#5 UCLA had the week off last week, but things will get tough this week with the Stanford Invitational, where they will play at least two top five teams and another top ten team.
Men's Golf
#16 UCLA will have to suck it up and bear a five-hour flight to Hawaii for the UH-Hilo Intercollegiate.
Baseball
The Bruins will play their Alumni Game on Saturday with the Old Timers at 11 am and then the current Bruins versus the Young Timers team at 12:30 pm.

Jon Gold just named you the "go-to" source for UCLA baseball news
over here on his Q&A from yesterday (although I think he meant to say “unofficial” instead of “official”)
Cool!
It was tough with all the tough competition I face for your UCLA baseball eyes :-)
