This is really insane. If .0001% of the funds is coming from the university, this is a bad idea. Based on the illustrations, I’d have to agree with BruinDadandGrad. The amount of money being spent to do moderate renovations is truly apalling.
This isn’t the right time, and they should go back to the drawing board.
But ultimately we all know this will go ahead as planned and probably take an extra year longer than they expect right now. These kinds of massive, delicate projects always seem to have something go wrong that pushes back the reopening date. Oh well.
This project is a waste
Yes it will be better….but not good enough for the money.
Start the planning over!

Even if a new arena was built at a new location,
Pauley still has to be renovated because its infrastructure is in such sad shape. So do you think the Athletic Department can get $100 million for a facility that will only be used by non-revenue and intramural sports teams? If you think that number is high, UCLA spent $70 million to renovate Royce Hall in 1997. So you better find a really rich alumni if want your state of the art facility.
Money for Royce
IIRC, much of the money for Royce was federal $, disaster relief from Northridge. I took a few Korean classes at UCLA extension in 94-95. The last class I took we had two aftershocks during our final. We moved outside to finish after the second one.
Geezer in training.
It would be nice
If UCLA acted as if it genuinely cares about how to make an intimidating home stadium against our competitors. We need a packed student section right on the floor, towering over the players. Unfortunately we will just have to wait and see what happens…

It would be even nicer
if we had a team worth seeing regularly…
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

we've had those
Even just three years ago we had those teams.
But the fan-base at Pauley, collectively (meaning both students AND alumni/other fans), have never brought the intensity that the most storied program in the history of the game deserves.
