[Update] Bruin Alum (US Ryder Cup Captain) Cory Pavin Visits Howlandwood
What a fantastic picture splashed on the home page of our official site:
Those of you who can't recognize the gentleman on the left, he is none other than Bruin alum Cory Pavin, who also happens to be the Captain of the U.S. Ryder Cup Team. We have taken note of Cory before here on BN. The kid from Oxnard High School has 15 PGA Tour victories and won the 1995 U.S. Open, and played in three Ryder Cups with an 8-5-0 record. He took over for Paul Azinger, last year to lead the U.S. Ryder Cup team.
Cory is a huge UCLA basketball fan. I remember watching him play in a big tournament once during when he was checking in to get UCLA hoops scores (and IIRC that was during that magical 94-95 season). The official site has a video of Cory's appearance in Howlandwood. Gold also provided the following quote from Cory:
"It's hard to express actually. It's a great honor, a great privilege and a great responsibility that both my wife and I take very seriously. We've been working hard to make sure we do this thing properly. The object is to go over there and win. It's the ultimate competition for us."
Well congrats again to Cory. We are all proud of him in BN.
GO BRUINS.
UPDATE (N): Apparently CRN dropped by the press conference to set something straight:
When the news conference was over, UCLA football Coach Rick Neuheisel, an avid golfer, burst into the room shouting, “Pavin you gave Ben a golf bag? He doesn’t even play!”
LOL. I am surprised Neuheisel wasn't able to snag one on the spot. GO BRUINS.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

I thought Howland doesn't golf!
Maybe he’ll give the bag to Harrick.
Corey is a great Bruin
I spoke to him several times over the years when the PGA played at Castle Pines, where I was a volunteer for the tournament (and no, I don’t golf). I would always wear my script UCLA cap to say hello to the several UCLA alums on tour. Corey always had great things to say about his UCLA heritage and still carries a UCLA bear driver cover in his bag. Captaincy of the Ryder Cup team is a very big deal, and it is quite an honor that he was selected.
