It's time for Dragovic to go

Enough is enough!  ND has to be regulated to the bench immediately and play a maximum of 10-15 mins.  If he takes a horrible shot or has a terrible defensive lapse, then he should be pulled and benched for the duration of the game. The first shot of the game by ND deserved a subsequent benching for the game. A lot of us (especially N), have been clamoring for this to occur months ago, but I don;t think it's too late to do so. The case for ND's benching grows stonger by the week.

Last night during the UW game, Knight and Bilas both seemed perplexed by ND getting so many mins and not being benched for poor play. Bilas specifically chastised ND after making a terrible pass, that was stolen, and lead to a dunk (this was fanshot and linked elsewhere).  However, even more revealing were Knight's comments about ND which should be taken seriously given Knight's extensive basketball and coaching background. He expressed confusion/disbelief that CBH was playing ND after numerous defensive breakdowns and poor shot selection. He even commented that he is a senior playing so poorly. He even noticed that ND is underutilized wrt his inside game. My translation of Knight's comments - WTF are you (CBH) doing wrt ND. Somehow CBH needs to hear the clips of Knight's comments about ND (maybe it will get thru to CBH, coming from a great coach with unsurpassed BB accumen and knowledge).

CBH has poorly developed and utilized ND. ND has a decent inside game and it seems like he was never encouraged or demanded to develop this part of his game. ND is a pretty big guy and his wide body naturally creates space allowing him to get pretty good looks inside. On offense, using ND inside more often and then occasionally letting him go out to the perimeter to stretch the defense would IMO create a much more effective and efficient offense. Also, pump faking the 3 pointer and dribbling inside for a shorter jumper would allow him to be more effective.  IMO this speaks to very poor coaching by CBH in ND's development on offense and to make matters worse it is self evident that ND has not learned anything from CBH on defense. Doubly poor coaching and I would say inexcusable for a high caliber coach. Obviously, it is too late for ND and now he should be a bench player. I have lost some respect for CBH ability to develop his players. He has received a lot of credit for developing his previous players (JF,AA,LRMAM, LMR, DC, RW,); however, he should also be held accountable for the lack of development of his players (JK,ND,JH and the entire soph class).

CBH needs to take control of his team and it starts with benching ND. The only explanation for him not doing so would be extreme guilt in not properly developing ND over 4 years.

I agree

I definitely agree with this post. Instead of calling for CBH’s head, it is putting pressure on him. Pressure on a coach is always good, it keeps a coach on his toes. You never want a coach to feel too secure. NO ONE should be calling for CBH’s head, but the pressure is on, it is definitely on. Dragovich should not see another second of playing time. Its time to get Lane, Bobo and Moser some meaningful minutes

Note

None of the regulars on BN (especially on frontpage) have “called for CBH’s head.”

an important distinction

Drive-by posters are probably trogans anyway.

I think it's been time

for a long while now. I don’t think I’ve ever hated a player this much. Not even Dunleavy for the GSW.

Interesting point re ND's mismanagement

We have all criticized at various points CBH’s mishandling of certain players development (JK, ML, BL/JMM/MM). We never really focus on his mishandling of ND. As frustrating as it is to have CBH not pull ND out of games (which some construe as preferential treatment), it might also have been a disservice to ND to not do so. CBH might have thought he was helping ND by leaving him on the court, but in reality the best thing for ND might have been for CBH to provide some sort of restraint on ND by holding him accountable. If your coach is going to let you do whatever you want on the court, then that isn’t your fault, its the coach’s. Ideally ND would have been able to learn to play in the post instead of jacking up 3s on his own.

At this point in the season it is a little irrelevant, but I don’t think it is an unreasonable question to ask whether CBH mismanaged ND as well as the more common examples of player development mismanagement (JK, ML, BL/JMM/MM) this year.

I agree with you here

I actually think Ragovic showed promise when he cared to go inside. However, that requires effort and desire on his part which he hasn’t exhibited throughout his career and hasn’t had any incentive to because his head coach let him get away with it time and time again.

Exactly

CBH should have been developing ND’s inside game over the past several years and he has hindered ND’s potential effectiveness on offense. Also, when players start developing an inside game on offense, many times it leads them to become “tougher” which presumably would lead to better rebounding and defense (which we know ND is severely deficient).

hindsight

in his first two years we didn’t need him to have an inside game (with LMR, LRMAM, PAA, KL among others). Last year we could have used him that way but apparently decided our best shot with the personnel was to spread the floor with jump shooters with a starting lineup of DC, JH, JS, ND and PAA. This year we could have used him more that way once DG left, but prior to that we had some front court depth to fill that role with DG, RN and JK all inside players…

I wish it had happened, in retrospect, partly because he hasn’t been consistent with his outside shot and partly because our front court has been in the wars (or has deserted…). I’m not surprised that it didn’t.

Yes.

With his size, he does fairly well inside. Decent footwork and balance with an ability to finish around the rim. You guys are right, too bad he isn’t forced to do it more.

Oops?

You used the word “regulated” did you mean to say “relegated”?
