Would really love to hear from all Den regulars
Was this a good move? Will this help? If it doesn’t solve the issues raised earlier this season then would love to hear why.
Perhaps someone who is completely on top of this (like asad, sideout11) could do a fanpost analyzing. Seems like all the discussion that has taken place over here has caused some movement on the part of CTO. If that is the case, I think at least the effort is appreciated. The question for me for those impacted is whether it was an efficient move?
Does this plan mean
that there are no more “plans” for the basketball games? Is it more like first come first serve?
If so, I think it’s a great plan because at any given game, you had ticketed students not going to the game and wasting their tickets, while those that wanted to go to the game but didn’t have the right plan missed out. This observation has already been made, but I think this plan could work pretty well.

Lol, bad wording
I should ask does this new SYSTEM mean there are no more ticket plans?

I wish I could still get student tickets
I am only 2 year removed! That is a fantastic deal. The football pass alone was $70 when I was there, so getting basketball for only $29 more is fantastic. My wife begins UCLA extension courses this summer, but apparently they do not get access to student tickets, so bummed right now, haha.
Great plan!
When I was a student (10 years ago) I had season tickets to basketball (and football) every year. We had paper tickets so they were easily transferable and, for the most part, not wasted. I am really happy with the new system. While I think the casual fan might not be ecstatic about the new system, every hardcore fan should be able to go to any/all of the games. I think this should go a long way to eliminating many of the empty seats in Pauly. I just hope that our team can give the fans a little bit more to cheer about next season. Go Bruins!
It came from our friend Mr. Mitchell over in athletics, not CTO
CTO actually appears to have been on our side for a while now. Anyways it is definitely an improvement, although I have some concerns over the long-term sustainability of it without a refund policy for if you show up but don’t get in.
Asad09 actually wrote an article on the issue in the DB just before the decision was announced, so he has all of the good stuff like interviews with Mitchell and the Den. He actually did a post linking to his article and other relevant posts here. I will talk to him tonight and see if we can put up a joint post in the next few days. Also BK Bruin would be another good person to ask for thoughts on the new system.

The New Den Sports Pass
Your All-Access Pass to the 2010-11 Season
UCLA Athletics is excited to introduce a new student ticketing plan for 2010-11 called the Den Sports Pass.
For only $99 the Den Sports Pass gives you access to every regular season UCLA home event, including football games at the Rose Bowl and every men’s basketball game in Pauley Pavilion. Say goodbye to the lottery system and start making plans to come cheer on your Bruins.
Why order now? The sooner you order the Sports Pass, the higher your priority for seating to the USC football game at the Rose Bowl on Dec 4th. So don’t delay!
As a current Den ticket holder, you have an exclusive opportunity to order your Den Sports Pass now until Friday, Feb 26 at 4pm. The Den Sports Pass will go on sale to the student body on Mar 1. To order, visit the UCLA Central Ticket Office or go online to your MyUCLA Notices
PAY WITH YOUR SBAR ACCOUNT AND DELAY BILLING UNTIL SEPTEMBER 2010.
Sounds great… Too bad I’m graduating in June. Ugh…why couldn’t they do this my freshman year when I desperately wanted to go to games but couldn’t?
Anybody want to give me $20,000 so I can still around for my fourth year instead of having to graduate early? Eh, eh? Any takers?
Have to read the fine print, though... (With props to the writers of SNL)

This actually sounds reasonable.
If you want to see a game, you get to see a game. It’s a tad more expensive than when I was there, but it’s still the right way to go.
Now, there needs to be a way to get the students surrounding the court.
that was my thought re: bball
I think this is a fair solution that really creates a win for everybody. Obviously not everyone that has a ticket will be able to get in and they risk forfeiting the $2 (or whatever a single game amounts to) if they only show up five minutes before tip off. However, if a particular student has his or her heart set on going to the Washington St game, for example, they can show up accordingly early and ensure that they can go. This creates an equal opportunity environment that is perfectly fair for all students. In fact, it will more often than not result in more students (especially freshman) going to every game and more rabid student fans as well.
The university, in total, generates more revenue than they would otherwise. Instead of charging a little more than the $99 for the lottery system and only reaching a small portion of students, they can get a guaranteed $99 from a vastly larger portion of the student body and not have to give any refund.
I really applaud this concept and hope that it works. If nothing else, it’s really an example of thinking outside the box for once. I don’t think any of us here on BN had pushed this concept yet.
Hopefully this beneficial creative thinking can be implemented in the marketing department as well… that’s a whole different animal.
