N. Love These Spots -- Thanks for Posting Them
Is this new to our athletic department? If so, it’s a welcome addition.
Our kids seem to be so articulate and personable.
And, I’m really glad to see Presley working his way into a major role. Interesting how Carter hit the nail on the head — kids come in as freshmen and just assume they will play and do well. Then, there is the awakening and they use the off season to improve themselves.
I wonder whether our basketball class of ’08 somehow missed that message. It’s not too late. They are about to start another off season — they should take some motivation from these guys and get to it.
Again, I exempt Bobo — he did make a major change in his body. And, as Carter points out, it is hard to lose body fat and build mass at the same time. Carter got his fat down and is now adding lean muscle.
I’m ready for football season.

The videos
The Athletic department should get props for them. I also think Neuheisel’s (and his tech geek Angus McClure’s lobbying) might have something to do with this as well.
These videos get me excited, however, I am also mindful of the fact that how I always used to read about players getting stronger and bigger during previous coaching regimes. Hopefully the results of these workouts will be evident via steady improvements in spring, summer and ultimately on the field in Fall.
+1
Same story about getting stronger every year, hopefully this year isn’t just PR bullshit.
It's different now
I think we see the results on the field, and I think the coaching is much better.
Love the crazy rope and sledgehammer workouts! Reminds me of doing piggy back races up the steps in Drake Stadium for our rowing workouts…
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
Damn
The most lifting I do these days is to fetch a bottle of wine from the top shelf. And, I don’t dribble after lowering it (except maybe a little down my chin), like these guys do with 9000 pounds of weights. Nor, have I been angry enough at my tires to wail on them with a sledgehammer. That’ll teach ’em.
Seeing this makes me appreciate what these guys go through to play at this level. Nice, too, to see the Pyramid of Success built into what looks like the steel foundation of the weight room.
Thanks for posting this (and these), N.
Great to see
I think this video just answered a lot of our questions from last season. Why isn’t Carroll or Pressly (aside from the injuries) playing more. What about Brehaut? I think a lot of these young guys come in with the mentality that they will start right away, and be a star right away, especially coming to a squad that was 4-8 the previous season. It doesn’t mean that they are bad kids, they just were not used to being “the man” on their team. The problem is, this kind of attitude leads to less hard work and more coasting on your abilities. I’m sure that CRN knew that he might have to “break” a couple of kids last season in order to get meaningful contribution from then in later years. And its a win-win situation. If the kid comes into the spring rededicated, thats wonderful for that student-athlete (hopefully, he has rededicated himself in the classroom as well) as well as the team. If he is resentful of the efforts of CRN and CNC, then the student obviously isn’t a good fit, will look to transfer in the future and free up a valuable scholarship. Win-win. Luckily, Pressly seems to be a member of the former group. I hope we can say the same about Carroll. I think having both of those guys is crucial to helping us to turn the corner.
