Center Court: UCLA Basketball (v. Oregon) Open Thread

Oregon Ducks at UCLA Bruins, Feb 27, 2010 2:00 PM PST

Here we go.  Senior Day fesitivities will start in less than half hour. James Keefe, Michael Roll, Spencer Soo, Mustafa Abdul-Hamid and Nikola Dragovic will be introduced at approximately 1:50 p.m. Three other Bruins seniors will be introduced as well, including Daniel Arevalo (student video coordinator), Frank Russo (student athletic trainer) and Andrew Nobe (student manager). Don't forget UCLA is also celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 1970 NCAA Championship team, which is going to take place during half time.

Bruins lead the series against the Duckies 81-26 (.757). We have won six straight games against those guys in Pauley Pavilion by an average of 14 points (77-63). That said today's game against the Ducks is going to be tough for the reasons described in today's roundup. You can read up on all of our musings leading up to this game here. If you want to follow the game online you can do so via our official site.

The tip off is scheduled for 2:07 PST on Prime Ticket. Donnie Mac is going to be in the house providing color so that should be fun. As always, we will be here in the game threads with our rapid fire takes and commentary. So let's get this party started. Fire away.

GO BRUINS.

Could CBH let him start and pull him at the first whistle so he can step on John and Nell Wooden Court one last time?

A quick note of thoughts of prayers

We have few BNers who are from Hawaii, including Tydides. Hawaii just evacuated more than 100,000 from lower areas because of threat of Tsunami due to earthquake in Chile. Hope everything is ok. Scary situation at least from what I am reading.

actually a new low for Ragovic

by Nestor on Feb 27, 2010 2:55 PM PST up reply actions

This is disgusting

we play no D

we can’t rebound

we can’t move the ball upcourt so we cross the line with less time on the clock

Then we aimlessly pass around the perimeter either jacking up a shot or running the clock down so our shot is a last forced shot

just terrible for a team that has played together all season

sjh

by Class of 66 on Feb 27, 2010 2:52 PM PST reply actions

It's on Howland

For setting the tone by having players with that kind of loser mindset on the court.

and the total lack of improvement during the year.

sjh

by Class of 66 on Feb 27, 2010 2:57 PM PST up reply actions

Again why should a team try hard

When Howland lets his pet play 33+ mins a game without trying hard?

by Nestor on Feb 27, 2010 3:00 PM PST up reply actions

i was fooled, N

at the midpoint of the season i was starting to think these guys were gelling together and would fight for games but ultimately fall short because of a lack of talent. i would read all the comments on here and felt, in general, we were all being too tough on the team and not showing enough patience… but to see them “go through the motions” particularly on senior day and in front of Coach, disgusts me. I hate to admit it, but the (lack of) motivation HAS to fall on CBH.

by DoubleTroubleBruin on Feb 27, 2010 3:03 PM PST up reply actions

What is happening in first half is not an aberration

we have seen this all year. It is stunning to me that Ragovic has gotten 18 mins despite scoring 0 rebounds, 0 points and 0 effort in general. Yet he has gotten more time than Bobo. You can’t blame rest of the team for quitting on the coach for this kind of negligent game management. Simply disgraceful.

I'll write more about this later -- but the bad coaching is not in schemes

it’s in having the wrong players on the floor at critical times.

Even with the limited talent, we are not getting the most out of that talent and have not all year.

Nice Comeback...but terrible finish...

I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a poor passing point guard as in JA. Especially at home, final game of the year, against the last place Pac-10 team. This loss typifies the season. They looked awful losing, and the end of the regular season is thankfully here. I hope they take some time this off-season to get better. Lane looks ready for some solid minutes, and of course Honeycutt will be the star of the team. Aside from those two and RN, the rest is wide open in my opinion. Maybe we could scrounge up a walk-on or two between now and the fall. I hope Howland takes the time not being spent gearing up for and playing in the NCAA tourney and spends it on the phone trying to find another Keating to help with recruiting and some backcourt players. I should say that if he were to take some footage of all of the errant passes, air balls, etc. coming from our guards this year, it would be quite a montage to convince some 5 star players to come on board ASAP! I wish the team well and that they put this dreadful season behind them and look to the future. I know I am already thinking about football.

Maybe it’s just me, but 5* players have been our problem not the solution.

Lady Bruins are in

With today’s win, our lady Bruins should be most likely in. The only bad mark is that we are 1-4 against the ranked team. With 20 wins today we should be OK. As for the men, I am looking forward to next year already. I definitely feel we should have a better team. TH, BL, and RN should start with Josh Smith and Jones. ML is th 6th man in my book.
