UCLA WBBall Storms Back From 16 Point 2nd Half Deficit To Beat Ducks 91-75
Bumped. GO BRUINS. -N
UCLA faced a dangerous Oregon team, that just a month ago in Pauley put up 80 points on us, but were torched for 104 points. Oregon came out hot hitting 4 of their first 5 shots to go up 11-6. After UCLA fought back to a 17-13 lead, Oregon would score 6 straight to retake the lead at 19-17. For the rest of the first half, Oregon maintained a small lead, never larger than 8 points at 50-42 with 55 seconds left in the half. Jasmine Dixon however scored twice in the last minute to cut the lead to 50-46 at halftime. For the first half, UCLA shot 53% to 49% of Oregon, but the difference was Oregon's 3 point shooting, making 8 in the first half. UCLA had to play most of the first half without Markel Walker and Darxia Morris who were in foul trouble.
In the second half, Oregon opened up strong, extending their lead to as much as 16, 66-50 with 14 minutes remaining. Things fell apart quickly for the Ducks, as UCLA over the next 6 minutes went on a 21-2 run to retake the lead 71-68 with under 8 minutes remaining. While Oregon was held scoreless for over 5 minutes, Jasmin Dixon scored 12 points during the run. UCLA's lead extended to about 6 points before Oregon got as close as 75-73 with 6 minutes remaining, but Oregon scored just 2 points in the last 6 minutes as UCLA ran away with the game to take a 91-75 victory. After scoring 50 points in the first half, Oregon was held to 25 points on 35% shooting in the half.
The player of the game for UCLA was Jasmine Dixon, and it wasn't even close. Jasmine scored a whopping 31 points and 20 rebounds!! Jasmine becomes just the second Bruin ever to go over the 30-20 mark. In addition to Jasmine's unbelievable day, Doreena Campbell added 21 points and Erica Tukiainen had 13. Both UCLA and Oregon had 20 turnovers, but the difference came on the boards and at the line. UCLA outrebounded the Ducks 50-23, including including 29-8 in the second half. At the freethrow line, UCLA attempted 31 freethrows to just 12 for Oregon, making 22 of them for a 71% clip. Oregon also chucked up a ridiculous 30 3pointers, making 11.
With the win, UCLA improves to 20-7 and 13-3 on the season. This win has multiple important factors. First, UCLA has reached the 20 win mark, which makes UCLA a very appealing team for the tournament. It also locks up 2nd place in the pac-10 for UCLA in just Nikki's second season. Coming today this weekend, UCLA was ranked #26 in the nation in the ESPN poll, and should be ranked when the new polls come out. UCLA's win marks a 7-2 road record in conference this year, the best since the 98-99 season, and sweeping 3 road trips is the first time since 87-88, and just the third time ever. Finally, not only did UCLA win impressively on national television, but major UCLA recruiting target Shoni Schimmel was in attendance, and it is believe she may announce her decision soon. The Bruins finish up the regular season this week hosting the Arizona schools, with ASU first up at Pauley on Thursday night.

Recruited great talent but couldn’t coach it.

What's your take on the turnovers?
We seem to have had a LOT the last few games. Trend, or anomaly?
Was this game like the one in Pauley?
Where the ball was always being pushed quickly, sometimes in-bounding it all the way to half court?
I didn't see the game on tv
I was at Pauley for the mens game, following along on my phone. There will be a replay on FSN on monday that i have recording that i will watch. However, i would bet that the game was high tempo. UCLA took 68 shots and 31 freethrows, which may mean another 15 or so shot attempts, which seems like a fast tempo style game for UCLA

Any idea what FSN channel
on Directv that will be on…I’d love to record it too!
This game was easily anti-the men's game
Lots of fast-paced ball control with each team firing shots within the first 10 seconds of the shot clock. Coach Caldwell really built some nice pressure D out of these ladies and I’m glad I watched some of this game instead of the abomination at Pauley.
Does anyone know when the next game will be on TV? This was the first I’ve watched in a long time and I enjoyed it.

TV
Neither of the Arizona games are slated to be on TV. I know the pac-10 championship game of the tournament is televised, i’m not sure about anything before that. Hopefully, UCLA should make it to the tournament final round, as long as we don’t have to play USC in Galen, since we can’t seem to beat them there

I don't know but
you can go to the games for $3 (mid-level) or $10 (lower level). They could use the support and appreciation.
Go Bruins!
I'm going this Thursday night
to watch some real basketball players and try to wipe out the bitter memory of last Saturday’s game. From what I saw on tv, this is the team to go out on the old Pauley.
Exactly as I predicted
Had a feeling UCLA would score in the high 80’s, and that oregon would be in the 70’s. I think the key thing we are seeing out of our women’s team is Consistency. I feel that even if we are down, we can always count on a run to help us. While I think we are becoming more stable with consistency from game to game, I would like to see some more consistency within games…keeping pressure D the entire 40 minutes and not having a second half realization that leads to our run. This team is definitely top 25 and should be top 15 in the coming years.
Well, I think everyone expected a high-scoring game.
Oregon has talented offensive players, but they all play Dragovic Defense: “It’s cool, as long as I score more/faster than they do.” So, as we’ve seen with Drago, the key is to slow him/them down. As long as you can stop or even slow down the offensive assault, you have the game. They allow an average of 78 ppg, and only score 83.6 on average; if you slow them down just a little bit, you’ve won the game on average.
March basketball
with a blue and gold team locking down on defense, hustling for every loose ball and fighting for everything they can. That’s what we’ve gotten used to in Westwood so thank god we have Coach Caldwell to give us that this season.

A joy to watch
Since the arrival of Coach Caldwell, they have been as an exciting team as any I can remember at UCLA. Coach Wooden always said he preferred the womens game as they are more fundamentaly sound. Congrats to Coach Caldwell and good luck in tourneys ahead though I do not see why the PAC-10 plays its tourney at an on-campus location when others do not. Just a thought.
Money
I’ve heard the reason was money. Renting out the HP pavillion in San Jose was expensive, whereas using an on campus facility costs the pac-10 less. However, the Staford faithful would pack HP Pavillion whereas i believe the Galen Center doesn’t sell too many tickets, so i wonder how much of a difference it actually makes?

Agreed
I am right with trueblue. Although many agree its a little unfair for USC, it obviously would cost more to rent the Pavilion. But in the same breath, even with it on USC’s campus, they couldn’t sell out the USC-UCLA game. Having women’s tournament games on campus is quite normal. The last time the ladies went dancing, we played the first two round at Purdue. In the first round we beat Bowling Green University, which wasn’t too far from Purdue. Then in the 2nd round, we played Purdue on campus. The place was sold out and the ONLY UCLA fans were the players parents and the band. We lost a tough game that day that, had it been played ANYWHERE else, i bet we would’ve won. It really just comes down to money.

on campus
tHE GAMES AT pURDUE WERE NCAA GAMES NOT CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS. NCAA GAMES ARE SCHEDULED WHERE THEY PUT THEM-I RECALL PLAYING A COUPLE AT PAULEY ABOUT EIGHT YEARS AGO. tHE DIFFERENCE IS PLAYING FOR YOUR TOURNEMENT ON YOUR HOME FLOOR IS NOT ACCEPTABLE LOOK AT OTHER CONFEERENCES. YOU ARE RIGHT GALEN WILL NOT SELL OUT AND TIX WILL BE AVAILABLE BUT WHY SHOULD suc GET CONCESSION, PARKING REVENUE AS i IMAGINE GATE RECEIPTS ARE CLAIMED BY PAC-10.AS I RECALL THE REVENUE FROM SAN JOSE WAS SIGNIFICANT-NOT OUTSTANDING BUT GALEN FOR ANYTHING OF CHAMPIONSHIP NATURE SHOULD NOT BE. MEN PLAY IN STAPLES AND HOW GREAT A DRAW WILL THAT BE WITHOUT SC OR WITH A POOR BRUIN TEAM
