Men's Tennis

The rain continues to hamper the #4 Bruins as yet another one of their matches was rained out. As a result, they didn't get any matches in last week, but will be in Charlottesville, Virginia for the ITA National Indoors this Thursday through Monday.

Women's Gymnastics

The sixth-ranked Bruins had no problem whatsoever with the road. In Tucson, taking on #18 Arizona, UCLA scored a season-high 196.725, well ahead of the Wildcats' 193.800 to improve to 6-1 on the year. Vanessa Zamarripa took home the all-around with a career best 39.675 while also winning the bats and beam. Bruins finished first and second in all four events and took third in three of the four as well. #8 Stanford, the only team to beat UCLA this year, will be at Pauley Pavilion on Sunday as the Bruins go looking for revenge.

Men's Volleyball

UCLA left Pauley Pavilion for a five-game road trip and their first destination was Hawaii, where large crowds are the norm. In front of over 3,000 fans both nights, the Bruins played with fire and picked up a pair of big wins over the #6 Warriors. On Thursday night, UCLA dropped the opening set 27-30, then stormed back to take the next three 30-25, 30-26, 30-25. Friday night brought a bigger crowd and even an even bigger cheer from the Bruins. It took four sets again as UCLA took down Hawaii, 30-26, 23-30, 30-26, 30-28. Garrett Muagututia led the way, totaling 46 kills in the two matches. Back on the mainland and back in California, the Bruins (6-5, 5-3) will head to the northern part of the state this weekend to face #5 Stanford and Pacific.

Women's Water Polo

#5 UCLA didn't get off to a great start at the Stanford Invitational, got better, then finished poorly. In their first match, UCLA was dropped by #4 Cal, 4-3. The following day was another one goal contest against a top five team, but this time the Bruins came out on top, 9-8 over #3 Hawaii. One goal games were the theme of the weekend for a while and another one followed as UCLA defeated #9 Arizona St., 7-6. The weekend ended on a rough note though as the Bruins were thrashed by #2 USC, 13-3. UCLA has just one match this week with #12 Cal St. Northridge visiting the Spieker Aquatics Center.

Women's Tennis

Mother nature hates the #12 women as much as the men, postponing their match last week as well. That match versus Rice will be made up on Monday, followed by their own ITA National Indoors.

Men's Golf

#13 UCLA's 2010 season opened with an eight-place finish in Hawaii. Gregor Main led the way with a 10th place finish and the team's finish was one stroke better than USC. The Bruins will play down in Newport Beach beginning on Sunday.

Women's Basketball

Winning at Maples Pavilion is nearly impossible and the Bruins found out why on Thursday. #2 Stanford beat UCLA, 74-53, to extend their home winning streak to 41 games, while setting up a huge game for second place in the Pac-10 between the Bruins and Cal on Saturday. In a strange game, Cal jumped out to a 8-0 lead. The Bruins then held them scoreless for the rest of the half (and to 8.7% shooting for the half) and took a 14-8 lead into halftime. The second half was better, but not much, although the result was exactly what UCLA was looking for. A 44-32 win moved the Bruins to 15-7 overall and 8-3 in conference play. Second place will be on the line once again on Saturday when USC visits Pauley Pavilion at 11 am PST in a game that will be televised on FSN.

Men's Track and Field

The indoor season continued in Flagstaff, Arizona and three Bruins came away event winners. Kevin Craddock took the 60m title, while Bo Taylor took the shot put title and Nelson Rosario won the long jump with a lifetime best 24-00.75. Two other football players competed, both in the 200m, where Randall Carroll finished fifth and Sheldon Price 10th. The Boise St. Team Invitational and Husky Classic are on tap this week.

Women's Track and Field

Shannon Murakami was the mile champion at the New Balance Invitational, the best showing for the women as they prep for the Boise St. Team Invitational this weekend.

Women's Golf

The nation's top ranked team, UCLA, begins their 2010 season on Monday at the Northrup Grumman Regional Challenge.

Softball

Preseason #6 UCLA begins their season this week in Florida for five games, including versus #3 Michigan, #8 Georgia and #18 Tennessee.

Women's Swimming and Diving

UCLA will close out the regular season on Saturday with #9 USC at the Spieker Aquatics Center.
