DC named Western Conf. Rookie of the Month
"Among all rookies, Collison ranked first in scoring (21.6 ppg), assists (8.3 apg), steals (1.8 spg) and minutes (41.7 mpg) in February. He also recorded 3.9 rebounds during the month. Only one other rookie in the last 25 years had scoring and assist averages that high in the same month with a minimum of three games played: Allen Iverson (April 1997 -- 33.6 ppg, 8.7 apg). The rookie guard had seven straight games of at least 18 points and nine assists (2/8-2/24), only Oscar Robertson has had more consecutive games (8) of at least those numbers (1960-61 season)."

that detail about AI being the only other in 25 years is astonishing!
I’ll be the first to eat crow and admit that while I expected DC to make an impact, I never imagined it would be this huge and so soon in his pro career.
Those are top-tier PG numbers, and DC’s doing it on a middle-of-the-pack team. It’s not like he walked onto a team stocked with superstars at other positions.
Way to go DC!
And being compared with the Big O is even more impressive
For those unfamiliar: “Statistically, one need look no further than the numbers Robertson put up in 1961-62, just his second year in the league: 30.8 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 11.4 assists per game-an average of a triple-double for an entire season.”
My favorite part of that article?
the part where it says “UCLA graduate”
Read that and weep Jrue Holiday. And Ray McCallum, this could be your future.
"We should have a banner up there: the only team to make the tournament without a coach." -- Baron Davis, remembering his "coach" at UCLA

+1
Tim Legler (not necessarily my favorite analyst) on the ESPN broadcast brought up multiple times how DC staying 4 years helped him become such a great player. The fact that DC also has a degree from one of the best universities in the world to sit next to his player of the month award is an awesome accomplishment.
Too bad the NBA didn't recognize DC and put him on the rookie All Star team
Yes, I know his best stats came after the All Star Game but he was putting up pretty good numbers before the ASG.
Hope they make it up to him by putting him on the sophmore team next year.
This morning's SportCenter highlight
of the Thunder game was basically all about RW. They talked about how he averaged 19 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds for the month of February and how he made that offense go by getting the ball into the scorers’ hands in the right places at the right times. Between him, DC and JF, we’ve got three damn good CBH tutored point guards in the NBA right now. Where’s CBH point number four? Hopefully we unearth someone this recruiting season.
For everything UCLA baseball, visit my UCLA baseball twitter.
I understand that maybe CBH has a certain reputation out on the recruiting trail
But come on now. Besides JF, who was highly touted coming out of high school, CBH has plucked two guards out of relative obscurity with few offers and made them into not only NBA players, but NBA contributors, and early in their careers no less. Say what you will about whatever “system” he’s supposedly confining players in but keep in mind that the next level doesn’t care what system you played in, they just want to know that you can play ball. It would be hard to argue that anyone with the requisite athleticism to be an NBA player under Howland hasn’t found himself in the league. That’s to his credit, and I’m not sure how PG prospects across the country aren’t beating down the doors trying to come to Westwood.
If we just looked at free throw shooting...
…I think Jones has the pg position on lock down.
Sophomore guard Lazeric Jones knocked down 22 points, including 12-of-12 from the free-throw line to pace the Logan attack
I have never seen Jones play, but even the possibility that he can be an adequate free throw shooter after the pathetic display by JA and company this year already makes me a fan of his.
It's sad
That doing one thing well….just ONE thing, is enough to make people consider you as potentially the best player at your position on the team.
not just PGs on SportCenter
affalo got PLENTY of love for his defense in yesterday’s game against the lakers. sportscenter keyed on the highlight of his blocks of kobe and pau on consecutive possessions.
This is so wonderful. I still say we should have an nba matchup
OOps hit the button too soon. Anyway a matchup between ucla and unc players in the nba. We both have 14 and it would give us both something to look forward to in the post season.
Go Bruins!
I was looking at stats for this type of matchup recently
I looked at which schools could field a minimum seven-man roster of NBA players that included at least one ball-handler and one big man. IIRC, Duke and Florida both had more productive seven-man units but no one topped the Bruins in terms of productivity and balance. I really believe that right now the starting lineup of Baron, RW, Ariza, Barnes and Love with DC, AA, JF, Kapono etc coming off the bench would be the favorite to win. That beig said, the killer trio of CP3, Tim Duncan and Josh Howard make a solid case for Wake.
We'd have the most very, very good players
but yes, Wake would have 2 (maybe 3) absolute monster all stars. I’d say that in a short game, they win. In a full game, depth wins out.
Anyone know...
what the reason may be for the big drop off in minutes and production for LRM in Milwaukee? He was starting for while and is now only playing limited minutes? Injury? Performance? Other?
Haven't seen many Bucks game...
But my guess is that after the trade for John Salmons and the pretty solid play from Carlos Delfino (both Guard-Forward players), his minutes at those positions have gone down.
On the other hand, he’s been playing some of his playing time at PF, as has Ersan Ilyasova. Ilyasova is similar to Mbah a Moute since he’s a SF that can play and defend PFs, similar size, and plays a pretty hard-nosed game. Ilyasova is more of a offensive threat with his ability to shoot the three, but he can’t defend as well as Mbah a Moute. I’m thinking it’s just a matter of matchups. With that said, Coach Scott Skiles seems to play Mbah a Moute on a more consistent basis (around 26 mpg) because of his defense whereas Ilyasova will play 8 minutes one night, then 32 minutes the next.
DC is playing right now
About 4 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. He has only 2 points (on two shot attempts), but he already has 11 assists against 2 turnovers. It’s possible that he could break his own franchise record for most assists in a game by a rookie.
