Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

In Photos: A Perfect Bruin Afternoon At The Chavez Ravine

UCLA's baseball team is off to its hottest start (6-0) since the start of 1997 season (we started 7-0 that season).  As Rye already detailed last night Bruins got their 6th win against Southern Cal in a perfect afternoon at Chavez Ravine. The Bruins got it done before 14,588 fans at Dodger Stadium, which is is the third-largest crowd to ever watch a UCLA baseball game (two games at the 1997 College World series featured over 18,000 fans at each ballgame).

The official site has put together a pretty awesome photo gallery of yesterday's events (HT Ryan). You can take a look by going here. For more photos from the game check out ak4797's photo gallery.  The official gallery looks fantastic but I would strongly suggest that the folks at Morgan Center create a flicker account where they can upload these photos that would allow easier distribution and posting among UCLA fans. It would be in the program's best interest if sites like ours can use these photos rest of this season when writing about this team.

Star-divide

Also, in case you missed it here is a video recap (on youtube) from yesterday's game (HT gloved one). The boys are back in action against Waseda University (Japan) for an exhibition contest on Tuesday. Game time at Steele Field at Jackie Robinson Stadium is 5 p.m. If you are a student or an alum living in Southern California, now would be the time to fill up JRS and take in beautiful Southern California weekends with the Bruins.

GO BRUINS.

Love some of these

Would you mind if I used these occasionally in my recaps throughout the year?

Sweeet

Incorporated it into the post and I am sure we are going to use it for more game threads!

Absolutely

Feel free to use as you wish.

N- I can also get you a link to the slideshow for this game if you want

If you have a link

You should feel welcome to fanshot the slide show. Also, if you are planning to go to more games, def. feel free to share as many pictures/galleries you want. I am sure we will be more than happy to use it and play up your work. Nothing better than crowd sourcing among Bruins to promote our own teams.

I thought it was really cool that they had a photo gallery

and the photos they had were awesome, but you’re right, they need to be available for use. As soon as I saw them, I knew I’d want to use them in things for the rest of the year, but I couldn’t get a hold of them. Just having a photo gallery is a nice step, though.

The game against Waseda will be sparsely attended and Coach Savage usually uses this game to get some of the guys who haven’t played some time so it’s not the most competitive of games, but baseball is baseball in my eyes. With our 6-0 record, we are now ranked in all four major polls, topping out at #14 in the Collegiate Baseball poll. It should be fun this weekend with Nebraska in town.

Rye

You should more than welcome to go crazy with open threads for every game. We can probably just develop a sample, boilerplate open thread and fill in the details with records of the teams, stater records, pictures etc. While I won’t be able to … I am assuming there will be interest in tracking the games online?

by Nestor on Mar 1, 2010 7:10 PM PST up reply actions

I'm not really sure if there is enough interest

from people who can’t do anything more than stare at GameTracker and while I’m at games, I won’t be on the threads. If there was video of games, I would definitely have open threads up there.

Is there interest? BNers, if you want open threads, I’ll start putting them up for every game.I certainly wouldn’t be opposed to more baseball stuff so if you guys want it, I’ll do it.

I think for Friday night games

We have nothing to lose by putting up open threads. As for weekends we can def. get them up once the basketball season is mercifully over.

Sure, why not?

We can do one this Friday night and we’ll see how it goes.

Sounds good

Hopefully if folks are at the game, they will pipe in every now and then with updates. That would be a cool start because I am sure people who are often just checking in on BN would love to get the updates by clicking on the thread.

Absolutely - do it.

You’re the semi-official marketing development director of the Athletic Department, Rye. No one has done more to stimulate interest in Bruin baseball that you. You should feel free to pat yourself on the back, as long as you don’t hurt yourself doing it.

I really think this could be built into something

where they can get 30-40,000 to attend once people get used to it. People love dodger stadium, they haven’t seen baseball in a long time, etc.

If this thing gets marketed correctly and planned out right, I think they are really on to something… I do agree though it should only be one game and this is it. I would also start at 1 like most afternoon baseball games in the summer start.
