"There's a lot of us in this league and Darren Collison's been playing well, as well as all the Bruin guards. You know, we rank superior in this league. It's always a tough task when you're going against a fellow bruin."

DC's parents are being interviewed during the game.
They’re not surprised by DC’s success. As they say, any one who watched him would not be surprised. Neither am I. I’m just glad he got the chance to shine!
Go Bruins!
I had a good feeling about his chances
But I did not see this kind of success this quickly. Obviously the CP3 injury played a big part in that, but this would have still been beyond my imagination even taking that into consideration.
I guess I agree.
Both Bruins had a really good game, BD 18 points 17 assists, DC 18 points, 14 assists. DC took control of the game in the 3rd quarter, getting his team going with 12 points. Great to watch.
Go Bruins!
That's not to denigrate those who had faith in DC who did see his outburst coming
I’m just saying they have better foresight than I do.
same here
I’ll be the first (well, second) to admit that I didn’t see DC flourishing until he had a few seasons under her belt. Based on the modest success of players like Farmar (DC’s mentor), I just didn’t really expect this kind of astonishing performance in his first season. I didn’t even realize how high DC’s athletic ceiling was. Based on college, I thought he was lightening quick, but not as naturally-athletic as PGs like Westbrook or even Jrue Holiday. I would have bet that DC would find a niche in the NBA and be a good, albeit not great, player in his first few years.
I am very happy to eat crow and watch him dominate in his rookie season. :)

The Real Point Guard U (and it's not even close)
After watching the closing minutes of this game, I got to thinking just how ridiculous it is that UCLA boasts so many solid PGs in the league and I decided to look into the numbers. Of course we currently have six former Bruins playing point in the NBA (DC, RW, JF, JH, Baron and Earl) which is two more than the next closest school (Texas) and three more than the supposed “point guard U” Arizona. In fact, the remainder of the free world only tops UCLA by two as there are currently eight foreign PGs in the league.
Of course, the Bruins can also boast quality to go along with the quantity. The average rating (per CBSsports NBA player ratings) of Bruin PGs is second only to Oregon’s two man team of Aaron Brooks and Luke Ridnour.
I just hope that when CBH gives his sales pitch to guys like Ray McCallum he has pictures of each of the above mentioned alums hanging conveniently on the wall behind him.

Donnie Mac made a point of saying
how staying at UCLA for four years contributed to the maturity that has been part of his success this year!
