March Madness, Thursday First Round Open Thread
So, the Bruins aren't a part of the NCAA Tournament this year. That's been talked to death and guess what? We're going to keep talking about it. There's some very important things to get to the bottom to in CBH's program and we'll keep digging and digging. We're fans. It's what we do.
That doesn't mean we can't enjoy the games, passion and emotion that makes March Madness so great. Buzzer beaters, heart breakers, mobbed players. We've seen it all before and the best part about March is that every year, you see something you've never quite seen before so share your March with us. This is your Thursday, first round, NCAA Tournament open thread. Games are on CBS, but you can also catch them on March Madness On-Demand by using the widget right below. It's March, it's your thread, have at it.

Love the HD-quality video on MMOD
Seemed like it was blocking me from switching from one game to another while a commercial was on, then allowed it once the commercials were over and it was back to hoops. Anyone else have the same experience?
No NIT
During the last weeks of the season, I was hoping the Bruins would play well enough to make the NIT, but now I am relieved that I didn’t have to watch Rago drag our guys down in another humiliating loss. I am glad our warrior Micheal Roll did not have to endure another hopeless struggle. I am glad they are done.

It was kinda like being a meth addict this year
You know it’s awful for you, and you may even hate yourself for it, but you just can’t say no.

I see that Cal
has suspended its starting PF, Amoke, indefinitely. Didn’t even make the trip to Fla.
Wonder if
he was hanging out with Masoli? Seriously, I’m not accusing him of anything, as there’s no public information. However, the Pac-10’s image can’t be helped by Amoke’s situation if there are any legal issues involved (stress the if), on top of Oregon’s multitude of legal issues, on top of the trogans being the trogans.
Then and now
Back in the day, everyone looked at Coach and UCLA as the model for success.
The last few years, everyone has been looking at Cheatey and his minions for the model for success.
The model is not as pretty these days.
greg in denver - UCLA guy for life
Bad news
More bad news for the already discredited Pac -10. If Cal and UW both go one and out, it will hurt our chances next year too. Can UW win as low seed? And ASU already went down to an 8 seed in the NIT. What a dismal year.

Not surprising that a Monty would take the high road on a thing like this.
He’s not quite from the same mold as Cheatie Petie or Calimari.

It would be much funnier if we were playing.
Anyway, got my HDTV, laptop, and lots of cholesterol at my fingertips…let’s go!

Mountain West with four tourney teams
doubles the Pac-10’s number, the conference we couldn’t look good in. Awesome.
BYU looking very good though. They rebound extremely well and shoot free throws well. I missed those two things all year.

It was a joke for OSU to be an 11
They were a single digit seed for sure and ND was not a 6 seed. All around, a pretty poor job by the committee IMO.

Villanova pulled it out
but what effort from Robert Morris. I remember a team that used to play like that! It sucks not being in the tournament this year.
Does nobody know the freakin' clock??
Villanova guy runs out time rather than just dunking to go up 5…then Robert Morris doesn’t appear to realize that time is rapidly running out. Amazing on both sides – and not in an impressive sort of way.
Where Gus Johnson when you need him.
“They only lost on the scoreboard.” I hate when announcers say things like that. Obviously the players should be proud of how they played, but the scoreboard is what they play for. I don’t think you’re going to console many players or fans with something like that right now. There are about 10 other ways to say the same thing, but in a less-stupid way.

Where have we read about this kind of situations?

Gus Johnson is calling the games in Buffalo
He gets:
Morgan State vs. West Virginia
Missouri vs. Clemson
Florida State vs. Gonzaga
Vermont vs. Syracuse
WTF is CBS doing giving him four games without a real upset chance. Gus Johnson was born to call college basketball upsets and they give him that? He should have Tennessee/San Diego St. or Vandy/Murray St. or Notre Dame Old Dominion. How great would Gus Johnson calling Notre Dame’s final gasp have been?

Bret: Pied Piper wasn’t cool, he took all those kids into a cave.
Murray: No, I mean before that phase; when it was just the rats.

Murray: Oh, I’ve got another note here. ‘Dissing’ – does that make any sense to you?
Jemaine: Bret dissed alot of people in that rap thing that he did.
Murray: Who were these people you were dissing? The only one I could make out was Snoopy! What’s your problem with him?
Bret: No, Snoop Dogg.
Murray: Yeah, I know he’s a dog, Bret. I’m not totally in the dark ages. I do go out every once in a while. But, Snoopy’s lovable! Leave him alone.

My wife’s K-State Wildcats gave North Texas a beat down. Now they have to show BYU who’s boss. Frank Martin has done a great job with the Cats and had them in the top 10 in just his 3rd year. After Beasley and Walker left, he’s recruited a group of Warriors.
Even the Prez has the Cats going to the final four. You can’t dispute his basketball judgment..
