Updated UCLA Football Depth Chart (PDF) Released
It is up in the new spring football guide (page 21). Take a look through it. Would love to hear everyone's thoughts. Some really quick thoughts early on:
* Interesting to see Jerry Johnson listed ahead of Randall Carroll at split end. That is going to be a very interesting competition. I am antsy to see Carroll's speed integrated in the lineup.
* While Embree can be dependable, I am anxious to hear what Josh Smith and Ricky Marvray can do to push him.
* Looks like Thigpen has passed Milton Knox in the depth chart which is interesting.
* The competition at MLB among Sloan, Larimore and Golper is going to be fun to watch.
What else stands out to you guys? Pick away.

Couple of things
A: Really excited about Nik Abele getting some serious reps.
B: Looking over our roster, it seems that we could win 5 to 7 games without Freshman, but that might be too optimistic
C: Our speed looks really good in the receiving and running corps, just a matter of catching balls and holding on (Cough- Franklin)
D: Happy to see Christian Ramirez still in the mix to get some PT

1st off...They could show a cover pic with Prince WEARING his mouth piece. LOL
Couple things that jump out to me (mostly things that have already been hashed over):
-All 3 QB’s on depth chart are So. – really hoping Prince and Crissman can stay healthy and allow Brehaut to RS.
-RB competition should be fierce. I am a big Knox fan so I am hoping that he can emerge to earn more touches, but if he is 4th on depth with 2 top HS recruits coming in…RB is absolutely a strength.
-The schedule is no cake walk and the team will be full of underclassman in major contributing roles. My guess, no matter what the season ending record shows – they will probably be better then the record indicates.

Maka
Anybody heard a status update on him?
Is Kai going to be eligible?
Do you need to be academically eligable to participate in spring ball?
Hearing that Maka should be cleared
but as we know, nothing is for sure until it happens with grades.
Winter quarter finals are this week so the semester is over, meaning that Kai has his chance to get eligible for spring ball. So long as he took care of his work in the classroom, he’ll be good to go.

Nelson Rosario
Rosario made such a good impression on me at the end of the season. I think he could be an impact player but I didn’t see a lot of write-up about him..
I've thought the same
but despite the matchup problems he can cause with his size an athleticism, he just has the tendency to consistently drop the important pass. He can make that one-handed catch behind his back on first down a lot, but he seems to drop the crucial ball on 3 and 8 with 35 seconds left in the game.
In this respect, he reminds me of a guy who went to my high school and played for Oregon, Jayson Williams. Freakish size and speed, but always dropped the ball at the most inopportune moments.
If only we could combine Embree’s sure hands with Rosario’s speed/athleticism, we’d have the best WR in the country… Anybody know a good mad-scientist who can merge the two?
Safety
It looks like the coaches don’t even know who is going to backing up who at safety, that probably explains why we can’t figure it out either…
Three talented youngsters – true sophomore DALTON HILLIARD
(6-0, 199) and redshirt freshmen ALEX MASCARENAS (5-10, 194)
and STAN McKAY (6-1, 194) – will compete for playing time at the
two safety spots.
