UCLA has won every game they have played, but they haven't won on Thursday yet this year. Maybe the schedule is the one thing that finally slows this team up? Cal Poly will be hoping so when they take on the Bruins tonight at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The 7-12 Mustangs are off to an awful start to their season and will be looking to right things before they begin Big West play, just as the Bruins are hoping to use this weekend, their final non-conference weekend series, to prep themselves for Pac-10 play.
Looking way ahead, SEBaseball.com released their Regional projections and they have the Bruins as the #2 national seed, meaning that they host a Regional and should they win their Regional, they would host a Super Regional (assuming they bid on one). Also in UCLA's Regional is Cal St. Fullerton, Hawaii and Yale.
Gerrit Cole will be on the mound for the Bruins in the 6 pm PST start. Cole enters 5-0 with a 2.20 ERA, 1.49 batting average against and 13.5 strikeouts per nine innings on the year. He will be opposed by Cal Poly's Kyle Anderson, who is 1-2 with a 7.43 ERA and .351 batting average against. Cole is aiming for his sixth win in his sixth start of the year.
