Baseball Doubleheader Open Thread
Undefeated UCLA will take on Nebraska today in a doubleheader at Jackie Robinson Stadium as the two teams do their best to get games in before the rains kicks in. The Bruins sit at a perfect 6-0, while the Cornhuskers are under .500 at 3-4, but winners of three of their last four. You can read my entire series preview here.
The Bruins will start sophomore right-hander Gerrit Cole (2-0, 3.27 ERA) in game one of the double dip and the Cornhuskers will counter with a sophomore right-hander of their own, Sean Yost (1-0, 4.66 ERA). First pitch is at 2 pm PST.
In game two of the doubleheader, scheduled to start at 6 pm PST, UCLA will start another sophomore right-hander in Trevor Bauer (1-0, 3.38 ERA). Nebraska will go with a little more experience in junior right-hander Michael Mariot (0-1, 7.20 ERA).
This is your first baseball open thread of the season. You can follow along with the game on GameTracker (link included) or you can listen live from the official site with John Ramey and color men, Danny Rees and Nick Theodorou. You can also grab updates from my UCLA baseball twitter. If you following along via any of the three ways listed, please use this thread to keep everyone apprised of what's going on in the game while chiming in with any thoughts, questions and opinions you have. The thread is all yours.

Holy...Gallego picks up an RBI with a single.
It’s great to see the team this year making things happen even with two outs…such an improvement from last year.

Nebraska pulls their starter
with 1 out in the 2nd. That’s a bullpen killer in game one of a doubleheader.

Well shoot, Nebraska hits a home run. 7-1 top of the 4th.
But then Cole struck out the next two batters. What a fighter.
Back-to-back doubles by Krill and Gallego scores Krill. 10-1 Bruins.
Bottom of the fourth, one out. This is insane.
Good grief, they put in another relief pitcher.
Could they be saving some of these relievers for the next game?

Nebraska fans wondering
If they’ll have any pitchers left. Then they comment “we need to get ourselves a Gerrit Cole.”
