UCLA football has a taste of Aloha

What do Dalton Hilliard, Kai Maiava, Micah Kia, Stan Hasiak and Eddie Williams have in common? Besides playing football for UCLA, these guys all came out of the 50th State of Hawaii. Hawaii's own local talent are contributing in no small way to the resurgence of UCLA's football program as a force in the PAC-10.

Although they were well aware of L&L Hawaiian Barbecue and Ono Hawaiian BBQ having several locations around Los Angeles, they all observed that they, ‘just no taste like back home.’

Back Home in Lahaina is FAR if you’re living on campus and don’t have a car. There’s one in Manhattan Beach that’s a little closer though.

Hey we can relate to that

There is average sushi/Mexican food around here in the East Coast but uhm “no taste like back home.”

You can't find good sushi?

Definitely no good Mexican food around there, but you should be able to find decent sushi. I guess you just need to trek up north to NYC…or stick to the crab!

But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

Well I think it is average to decent

Haven’t tried the key ones in NYC (was mostly talking about Boston and DC). It’s just not the same as sushi places in LA.

Even in LA

Sushi can be hit or miss. The really trendy looking places are almost guaranteed to be bad. A lot of garbage with crap like cream cheese in it. Gross.

I do everything I can to avoid the trendy places

Here in DC I usually go to couple of neighborhoody joints out here in NW. They are pretty decent. Whenever we visit LA, Mrs. N usually knows her way into couple of dive joints around Westside and also downtown (near Little Tokyo?).

But we try to avoid anything that looks trendy like a plague. Ugh.

Listen

if you go to NYC, I’ll tell you where to go for sushi. The real authentic kind. Where the Japanese go to have lunch. None of these weird rolls.

But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

LOL

So tired of the “Obama Rolls” in every freaking joint here in DC.

Great lil read

I really enjoyed this. Hopefully we can keep getting great lineman from the 50th state :]
