Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

UCLA has offered French forward Remi Barry, who per the highlights above looks (and kind of plays like) Joakim Noah (don't get too excited because remember it's just a highlight reel).

Anyway, Barry is visiting Westwood on an official visit this weekend. Guess we will have to stay tuned.

Class of '11

Just for the record. Nice find Nestor. At least he’s local. Sure he’s playing against Kindergarden kids in the video, but you can see flashes of potential (NOT cumparing him to Noah because he looks a little like him). Moves well, looks physical and a good wingspan. I just like the fact we’re starting on ’11 recruits NOW. Looks like cummitting early could hopefully be a new trend (Gilcrist – UK, and Marquis Teague conf. tomorrow) instead of this B.S. announcing in All-Star games crap.

2010 ain’t done yet… Terrence Jones should announce April 23 or 30th. New sources tell me KU (That’s Kansas) is now in the mix. I only say “KU,” because UK (KY) and the Bruins are in the mix as well (Oklahoma, Wash. and Oregon don’t stand a chance).

It's unclear

He is listed as class of 2011. However, he might be eligible to enroll this season. He is taking his official THIS weekend.

Eligible?

Really? How? That would be great add for this class. Wonder if he played in the pros in France like Enes Kanter did in Turkey. Good experience.

I don't have all the details

If they emerge it will get shared. Otherwise you can look up on your own.

by Nestor on Apr 19, 2010 4:22 PM PDT up reply actions

Cool

I’ll ask him this weekend when I meet him on campus.

be careful about contact w recruits

Fwiw I asked Dave Telep – recruiting guru – about it. Haven’t heard anything it (asked via twitter).

Many European schools don't follow the same structure

as American high schools, and many times the students finish after 11th grade. Most foreign players (in any sport) that come to the US for college have a choice of coming in a year early, or taking a year off and coming in at the same age as the Americans from the same class, if they have their academics in order.

If he’s taking an official, it probably means that we are recruiting him with the 2010 class.

We're havin' too much fun today. We ain't thinkin' 'bout tomorrow.

Great info

Thx Steve. I’m also curious what Barry’s experience is in Euro-ball / league, or if he has any. Love the help for 2010 if we can get it. We just HAVE to have a replacement fwd. since the devestating loss of Drago-BRICK.

Ugghh, Noah not the best example

My stomach tries to empty itself every time I think of him, horrible memories of watching him play, as well as of seeing his face while watching him play. Call me bitter, but I can never be a Noah fan lol

Thanks for the update though. What are NCAA rules like regarding enrolling “early”? There’s been talk about that PG, Matt Carlino possibly leaving HS early as well?

thank you!

Please never positively reference Joke Noah. He’s the most deplorable character of those Florida teams and a joke in the NBA who vastly overrates his own worth.

lol

I don’t disagree with you guys.

by Nestor on Apr 19, 2010 4:07 PM PDT up reply actions

not to mention

Noah’s recents comments about Cleveland (the city, not the team) in the media. I don’t care how you feel about a particular town, it doesn’t make any sense to trash it. It doesn’t give him or his team a competitve advantage nor bring anything positive by saying things like that.

He’s a prick…plain and simple.

by hicalliber on Apr 19, 2010 4:10 PM PDT up reply actions

Noah said...

Basically called Cleveland a dump.. not saying he’s entirely wrong but still…

FROM USA TODAY:

On Sunday, Noah said: “I don’t know about Cleveland, man, there is nothing going on. It’s bad, man.”

He was then asked if his dislike motivates him.

“What, that Cleveland really sucks,” he said.

Yes, I hate this man.

no problem

OT: how would I go about changing my screenname? When I signed up for BN a couple years ago, I just used an extremely old name from when I was a kid. Would I have to create a totally new account?

by longbordr52 on Apr 19, 2010 6:29 PM PDT up reply actions

You got two options

1) create a new account (but note every new account has a 2 day probationary period until it is active for commenting purposes) or

2) try sending us an email (bruinsnation@gmail.com) and tell us what you want the username to be. We can try changing it from our end.

2010 would be great

When he was a junior and playing for a high school in Florida, Espn had him ranked as the #28 overall recruit for 2010 before he fell off the radar after not being allowed to play high school basketball last year. Sounds like he possibly has some potential.

May be too late for the east coast BNers

but does anybody have any info on Emerson Murray.(6’3’’ point from Canada)? I’ve been keeping a pretty close eye on the recruiting situation and last night Murray’s name suddenly popped up in connection with UCLA but all the info was behind subscription firewalls.

by LVBruin on Apr 19, 2010 7:43 PM PDT reply actions

Maybe it's just the video

but he didn’t look overly athletic. The jump shots were lightly contested and I don’t know if those drives to the hoop will fly against decent college talent. Not sure about this move without seeing more.

by Sideout11 on Apr 19, 2010 9:42 PM PDT reply actions

Yeah

We shouldn’t be making any conclusions from these videos either way. I think at this point of recruiting season all options will have questions around them. Guess we will have to see how it all plays out.

Barry is a Senior

According to this article:

Remi Barry, the French national transfer student denied eligibility to play high school basketball by the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), will finally hit the floor Saturday when the YBA Dawgs open up the Spring AAU competitive basketball season at Hardwood Palace in Rocklin. The 6’7" Del Oro High School transfer student . . .

Barry hasn’t played in a high school game since February of 2009 . . .
Barry did not suit up for the Golden Eagles this season after the CIF ruled his transfer violated its bylaws. . . . Barry is still a highly recruited D1 college prospect despite missing his senior year.

Not sure what to think of him based on the clips or anything else, except he does seem to be comfortable dribbling the ball at 6’7". He left his old High School and Florida because:

In court papers, Barry said he was “abused and neglected” by his host family in Florida. Remi said his host family “treated me like I was stupid and lectured me on how white people will only bring problems if you are black.”

He was ruled ineligible not because of grades but because his transfer was deemed athletically motivated.
