Game Thread: Trevor Bauer Takes The Mound As Bruins Go For 23rd Straight Win
I won't pretend to be Ryan (who is on his way to the game) as I set up tonight's game -- I'll just do the best I can.
What I know is this:
UCLA takes on Stanford tonight in the second game of a three-game series. The Bruins took Game One last night in ten innings, a come from behind victory. Sophomore Trevor Bauer-- who has never lost a start (oh damn ... did I just jinx hm) in his UCLA career faces Jordan Pries, who is 2-1 on the year for Stanford.
The Bruins are in unchartered waters at this point -- their 22-0 record totally eclipses their prior best start (which was 8-0).
The game is about to start. There are three ways to follow along. The most informative and detailed is the online audio call with John Ramey, Danny Rees and Nick Theodorou. You can also follow along on GameTrackerGameTrackerr and on Ryan's UCLA baseball twitter, like always. So plenty of options to follow our undefeated Bruins here and you can also check in on this thread with your game updates, thoughts, questions, opinions or whatever else you've got.
It's game time, it's your game thread.

I'm having some computer issues ...
I can access some sites, but not others, so I might not be able to add much to the opening post above. I think we can enjoy the game regardless … Go Bruins!
1-0 Bruins after 2 1/2
The Trees had a runner at second, but Gallego made a nice heads up play to catch him going to third on a ground ball.
The place is PACKED
I can’t remember a bigger non-SC game crowd in the Savage era. Seats are full, people are standing and people are still coming in. I doubt the fire Marshall would be happy, but everyone at the ballpark us.

1-0 Bruins after 3
Pries for Stanford is cruising right now. We need to be patient and get him to throw a lot of pitches. Get him out of the game.
Whoa. I couldn't see it, but a nice play at the plate for out #3
A ball got away from Rodriguez and the runner at third tried to come home….OUT
Bruins maintain their 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the forth.

It’s cutting in and out every other second at the server. I’m happy that UCLA is getting the attention for baseball but I’m pissed that I can’t hear the game.
A ball hit off of Regis at third goes out to left field.
The Trees have runners at the corners with no outs.
Right as I open the Game Tracker
Stanford scores. Great.
Kind of like driving past a healthy looking Lane then turning on my computer 10 minutes later to find that he’ll be out for 5 months.
Well
It was a great streak. Guess we still have 5 more innings to play. Anything is possible with these guys but if we don’t get it done tonight, hope we can get the rubber match tomorrow.
Yep. Had to happen some time.
Maybe they are feeling the pressure. They have made a bunch of mistakes lately.
still stuck
On krill not at least diving for the ball out in RF. There’s 2 outs and your pitcher is scuffling, you gotta lay out for that ball. 2 more runs came in afterwards.

Lighting Pries up? He’s got pedestrian stuff.

twin-killing to end our threat
We’ve been walking the tightrope all evening, escaping jam after jam. It was only a matter of time befor stanford made us pay for it.
At the same time we haven’t made the most of our chances. This being my first visit to JR stadium, I feel like I jinxed our guys.

It just means
You need to come back out tomorrow (in case we don’t come back tonight) to negate the jinx.
:(
Just tuning in. Well, who knows what will happen the rest of this game, but IF we don’t come out on top I am still in awe of what this team is doing. Gotta end sometime and it takes some pressure off when it does. GO BRUINS!!!

If the boys don't pull this out tonight, they should get a standing ovation
for what they have done.
definitely
Its just one game. We still have a lot of baseball to play.

Can I complain?
It’s great that so many fans have come out tonight (some of whom are already leaving btw), it’s unfortunate that some riffraffs have to come out. In the bottom of the fourth inning and a little into the fifth, some guys started some nasty heckling (“raaaaattled” and “come on, 5, just give up” and others).
Well of course that riled up the Cardinal and they went on that scoring frenzy. I know it’s not entirely the hecklers’ fault (we can’t score) but I’ve never seen anything good come out of nasty heckling like that. And these guys aren’t even man enough to continue it, becoming quiet all of a sudden when the other team starts hitting.
My fear is that now that we’re sure to lose tonight, since Sundays are our weakest days (I know tomorrow’s Saturday), we’re going to lose the series. Way to support the Bruins, hecklers. At least you could have waited until tomorrow.
BTW, I’m sitting in front of a very loud kid who’s yelling with all his might supporting the Bruins (come on Bruins, you can do this!!!) and it’s very heartwarming.

Can't STAND that
there always seems to be a few dopes in every crowd. I have one behind me at Pauley actually and it drives me crazy. I mean, so they think that is HELPING to heckle their own team? Lame.

Oh sorry, I was complaining about our "fans"
that are heckling Stanford.
Yikes, Bruin fans heckling Bruins? That’s terrible!

OH
sorry I misread that. Yeah sometimes people get down on their own team and yell things out. Kills me! I understand your point too though. It’s all stupid!

Basketball was a whole nother beast this year.
I actually could understand it, though not condone it.
Baseball has always attracted a rowdy crowd. As long as I can remember, there have been morons like you mention. There are always a few in a crowd.
I hear you
I know Basketball was bad this year, but I don’t condone it either. I doesn’t ever help the guys to hear that stuff. Tell you friend and chat on BN to get it out! :)

You're right, but this was the first so far
this year, and toward the last third of the season there weren’t any hecklers either. I guess the price of playing well are these fair-weather nutsos.

And
just to give you and idea of what we have dealt with in my section, this person who sits near me said in Howland’s 1st year… “Get Steve Lavin back here…At least he was CUTE”
VOMIT!

but they're only in top of the 3rd :(
I’ve seen ASU play this year and a 2-run lead is nothing to them. I really had hoped we wouldn’t lose before the Devils but c’est la vie. Still an amazing feat for the Bruins.
by BruinIslander on Apr 2, 2010 8:38 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions
Hopefully they don't lose their confidence.
They need to get back on the horse and start a new streak.
45 degrees, windy and rainy in Oregon for the OSU/ASU game.
That really sucks. We thought we had it bad.
Thank you John Ramey for another great night of play by play.
Your words are our vision. Too Korney?
I am standing and applauding for our Bruins.
What a great start to their season. May they win 22 more straight games.
We were supposed to go to some friends for dinner and a movie(Sherlock Holmes)
and I passed to listen to the game. Oh well.
Haha - Yeah right after you hear the final out.
The streak is broken now, you can miss a game if need be.
In conclusion
A can never do the game thread again.
We were going to lose eventually and a loss today is fine so long as we take tomorrow. Any series win is a good weekend so we need to wrap that up tomorrow.
