Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

Here are Rick Neuheisel’s comments after day 5 of UCLA’s spring practice. Re. the injury to Josh Smith (PCL tear) CRN said Josh is "fine" and a decision needs to be made "as to whether or not to have surgery." According to Neuheisel, "it’s the PCL, which normally isn’t surgery – it’s just a rehab, and it’s a brace, and it scars down and you’re ready to go." As he added UCLA does "have the luxury of time. It’s just unfortunate that he missed a better part of spring practice.’’

CRN also described the Chandler at DT as "great experiment this far." Jope Josh and Nik (Abele) hang in there. We are rooting for them to come back stronger and healthy in due time.

Damn

Hoped that it was just a strain. Really unfortunate for Josh and us since we all lose out on valuable practice time. On a positive note, guys like Mavray/Carroll/Johnson/Moutra will get plenty of extra reps. What a relief regarding Chandler. He held up well when I saw him at practice and I’m crossing my fingers that he continues to improve because we desperately need him.

Damn II

Missed the part about Abele. Another guy that could use the practice. Hope it is nothing serious.

Damn III

Too bad about Josh. Maybe I’m just paranoid but we seem to have a lot of injuries at positions lacking good depth, in this case returner.

Whats the deal with the Turf?

I talked to a former player last year, and he attributes his knee injuries on the type of field they were playing on. He told me that half the field was artificial turf and the other half was grass, but most of the time he was playing on the turf. Someone asked CRN last week if an injury to one of the players may have been caused by the turf? Does anyone know anything about this?

PCL

As far as knee injuries go it could be much worse. He still can make a huge impact in the fall even w/o surgery with the proper physical therapy. He may chose the surgery to remove the all doubt about the knee still.

It’s easy to blame the surface, but this could happen anywhere. I doubt Smith knows exactly when he partially tore it.
